It's National Chocolate Chip Day!!!

Why do they call them chocolate chips.  I imagine at one point it actually made sense, maybe these little chocolate bits were chipped off of larger blocks of chocolate.  Today if we see irregularly shaped chips of chocolate we tend to call them chunks.  The things we call chips today appear to be small little squirts, rather than something I'd define as a chip.
