Laugh about candy

I think I’m going to start a collection of Candy Jokes. I was lucky enough to open up for the Canadian comedy icon Winston Spear this past weeked and he has a great candy joke. If you have one send it my way and I’ll post it on the BLOG. Keep it clean and make sure it’s original.

Happy National Chocolate Day

I’m not sure how official this holiday is, it’s probably like Ground Hogs Day, Valentines Day, or Easter. But none the less why not use this made up type holiday as an excuse to go get yourself some high quality chocolate.
If you need any suggestions just let me know.

The last update day of 2006

Well the end of the year is upon us and what can I say. It’s been a big year for Candy Critic, in particular this BLOG. First of all let’s look at what kind of treat we’re featuring this week… Oh dear god, it’s horrible. Well start the year off with something insane and terrifying I always say.

As far as this year goes it’s been the biggest year for Candy Critic in particular with the creation of this BLOG. I hope those of you reading this know and have checked out the site because it’s really the backbone of the whole Candy Critic world. This BLOG is really just a place for me to vent out my candy concerns which surprisingly I have a few.

Best of luck to all you candy fanatics in 2007 and we’ll be here waiting for you.

Feeling Sheepish

I remember this ad from a little while back. Having just watched it like 4 times the religious overtones are pretty amazing. That or I’m just looking into it too much. This ad also reminds me that I have yet to actually review Mentos on Candy Critic.

Great things about the east

In Canada there’s a little candy company called Ganong, actually it’s pretty big, it just has little candy company charms. See they have all these treats and best of all they have really strange names. Take for example the “Chicken Bone”, sure it doesn’t sound like a candy you’d want to eat, but then you’d be wrong.

They have these gummy type treats called “Fruityfulls”, I can’t figure out why the name seems odd, it just does. Well you’ve heard me yammer about these for long enough, I should let you know as well Candy Critic is giving away a bunch of Ganong treats on the site right now. So go check it out, you might find out what a chicken bone really is.

What day is better than Christmas? Update Day!!!

So the holidays are upon us and here I am wondering why in the world there is no snow on the ground. I live in Canada and I would expect something. To help keep my holiday spirits soaring though, we have a special review. I’m not really sure why bells have anything to do with the holidays other than the ending of It’s a Wonderful Life, but what are you going to do.

We also have a special article to help you out if you happen to be visiting Grandma this year. It’s a little something to make the holidays go over a little smoother and with less candy related incidents.

The oldest candy I own

I have a pretty good-sized collection of candy. Some of it is really not for eating though; I’ve had it for a little while (a few years at least). But this weekend I received what could possibly be the oldest candy I’ve ever had the pleasure of witnessing. Inside this box…

Are two candy roses and a chocolate heart estimated to be about 50 to 60 years old. If anybody has some kind of crazy dating candy gadget and wants to prove it let me know.

Not for the weak at heart.

I’m not sure if I want to eat a Flake bar or have a cold shower, having said that I could always eat the flake in a cold shower.

I’m down with updates

It’s Wednesday and that means another update is upon us. This week we look at another Kit Kat bar. I know, I know, why do I eat these things if I’m just going to complain, well that’s the job of a critic isn’t it? Either way, this one has cinnamon, which I was horrified to find out isn’t two words that sound the same but have different meaning.

I’m also letting you folks know that we’re giving away a pile of Christmas cheer in the Candy of Month Club this month. We have a whole bunch more contests lined up already with all kinds of cool candy. The thing is if you don’t want to join and get candy sent to your door monthly, you can join the Candy of the Month Club light and still be eligible for the prizes, memberships are as low as 9 bucks for 3 months.

Ganong

Ganong, one of the coolest names in the candy industry, I like to walk around my house screaming it at the top of my lungs.

The kind folks at Ganong just sent me a whole bunch of cool treats. Some you could even win (check back soon).

They sent me something called fruitfull, one can only hope it is.

They also sent me Chicken Bones. For those that know what they are you know how lucky I am, for those that don’t you’re probably thinking the worst.

Belgium fun

Allison just got back from Belgium and she brought me all kinds of cool treats.
Must… Stop… eating… chocolate… must... take... picture.

Old but not busted

This ad rocks; I particularly like the acting of the ape-man. I also want to know how horrible any human would have to be at eating chocolate to have the issues he has.

Really big shoe

So today was the day I tried to be a salesman.
With my postcards displayed for the world to see.

I set up my first trade show booth for Candy Critic.

All kinds of crazy fun people came by to say hello. Some had actually heard of me before. I had a great day, although I’m not too sure if trade shows are really my bag, it’s a lot of standing around, and I missed my 2 o’clock nap.

Update day, update day, yaaaaaay, its update day!

This weeks review was a fine treat purchased by a friend of mine while he was overseas. It’s different, fun, and culturally something you’d never find in North America, due to the unpopularity of dates. Glad I could try it; wish I had more to share with others.

Also this week you can read about my very unpleasant experience with a revolting snack. Sure it sounds like fun, but that’s because you didn’t have to eat it.

Finally, I just finished a new episode of the Candy Critic Internet Films. This episode I give away some of my favourite places to buy crazy snacks.

Reese cake and me.

I was walking through my local big box store and what I saw made my stomach do flip flops of joy. I assure you that flip flops of joy may be good at first, but too often it can lead to serious injury. What I found was the greatest idea ever thought of by man or beast, a Reese cake.
I took my new found purchase home in a wink and found all kinds of cool things inside.

The coolest thing I found was that it came equipped with its own baking pan. I like this because I’m really lazy and this means less clean up and more throw away.

I quickly started layering all the ingredients as the instructions well… instructed.

The peanut butter layer, easily the most important.

I added the final chocolate layer and popped it in my fridge (please refrain from making comments about the contents fridge).

When it was done I cut it while singing Bryan Adams ‘Cuts like a knife’. Good thing I was home alone.

Yummy, this cake was simple and tasty, just like me.

The best candy commercial ever…

Why do I say this?

Could it be the clever dialog? The great acting? The awesome special effects?

Or could it be that I worked on this one a few years back and found it on You Tube.
