Cracker Jack time!

I can’t tell you why but for some reason I’m really craving some Cracker Jacks. The only thing that really bothered me about these was the stale boxes. Fresh this stuff is one of the greatest snacks ever; stale it’s one of the worst. The prizes on the other hand have pretty much gone steadily down hill over the years. I figure at the current rate of decline in 6 years the prize in a box of Cracker Jacks will be a punch in the face.

Pom-a-what’s it’s name?

I was walking down the street today and I came across this add for extra’s pomegranate berry gum. It sounds great and I’m sure I’m going to give it a try but it raised a question for me. What is a pomegranate, is it a berry too, is it a citrus fruit? I mean I know what it is, I’ve eaten many in my life, but what category of fruit can you classify it under?

Up high

Allison’s friends Jason and Janine just made it to the top of Mt Kilimanjaro and they posted this great BLOG about their journey. Due to the fact that while climbing they have to keep extra hydrated Allison wrote a comment.

Allison’s comment on their blog:

“Can you pee my name in the snow? I mean, if you have any extra to go around…”

Jason’s response:

“I wrote "Allison Ralph". But then I remembered you'd adopted your true love's last name. So I crossed out "Ralph". But then the altitude sickness kicked in and I couldn't even remember Chris's last name. So I crossed out "Allison" and just wrote "Mrs. Candy Critic".

Hope that's okay. It would be a real pain in the ass to change it again.”

(Note from Chris: even if it says “Candy Critic” don’t eat the yellow snow.)

I have not forgotten you I swear.

Things have been really in a state of complete flux here at Candy Critic lately, and that’s why I wasn’t too on the ball with the BLOGs last week. But I didn’t let the review fall behind; I’m just not that kind of guy. This weeks review was so great I decided to share it with a few friends. The also agreed that it was great, so I’m saying that great stuff was all around.

I hate writing the “sorry I haven’t blogged lately” but…

You may have noticed a few less blogs this week. Well I’ve been updating my computer and to be honest it’s really gotten in the way of any kind of interesting things, mainly eating candy. The good news is I’m almost finished, so hang on for a whole lot of candy fun times.

As I look outside I see ice, as I look at my calendar I see that it’s update day.

Yup, the weather sucks and I’m in my bathrobe writing about candy. It’s not a bad gig at all. I have tomorrow off so I think I’ll update my computer and hope to god that I don’t lose any portion of Candy Critic. This weeks review I chose… well I’m not really sure what drove me to buy sugar free liquorice but I did and so here’s the review.

Goat: Chocolate!

Girl: Fried.

Goat: Chocolate.

(Then something about this fried chocolate snack.)

Bubbles is my favourite Powerpuff Girl

So a while ago I picked up this strange little drink called Cici Bubble Jelly Drink. It basically reminds me of that drink from the 90s that had the little strange balls floating in it. The difference is this one also seems to have some kind of transparent rectangular cube like bits too. I bought it with the intention of telling you guys all about it right off the bat. Then I read the top label and it said it’s better refrigerated. That was about 2 months ago.

Now having found it after eating the chocolate cream pie that was right in front of it I’ve decided to give it a try. After taking it out of the fridge my first instinct was to shake it around and stare at it for a while, so I did. Those circles and rectangles are mesmerizing. As I was just about to stick my straw in I noticed one of the big design flaws of this treat. The straw’s about 2 inches too short, but that’s not going to stop me.

Well the best way to describe this fine treat is that it’s like sucking Jell-O with little bits of fake fruit through a really short straw. I also noticed while drinking it that the top mentions that it contains “Natade Coco”. I’m thinking that Natade Coco is probably short for fake fruit like things that you can chew but strangely have no texture found on earth.

(As a side note if you think the last picture here is as boss as I do you can buy yourself a copy of it in the candy critic store.)

One more update until… well next update day.

So what’s on the plate for this update day… well not really that much at all. We have an awesome treat online and a pretty busy week online posting web sites to check out. I’m planning in the near future to spend a whole week talking about Bazooka Joe comics, as well as maybe presenting you guys an awesome new piece of art I’ve been working on.

Video fun

I’ve been late with the weekly video so often that it’s just starting to become the Saturday video instead of Friday. Well let’s just say that the video will be at the end of the week, good with that?

Gummy Bears light up my life

The folks at Design Milk have these awesome Gummy Bear lamps on display. All I need to know is this. Is there anything a Gummy Bear can’t do?

Don’t go drinking your gas, it’s not candy.

However these fine fellows have found a way to make candy into gas for their truck. Now at first I thought it was amazing and a great thing for the environment. Then I thought about all the corn farmers right now selling their crops to fuel folks and not to food folks. My thoughts lead me to the idea that if they learn to make fuel out of chocolate, then won’t the price of chocolate skyrocket? This is not good.

On the Candy Web this Valentines Day.

I’ve been getting a whole lot of e-mail lately about things I can do for the lady I love on Valentines Day. Much of it is Spam and I’m pretty sure not appropriate to mention on a site about candy (I figure there must be a few kids reading). But here are a few from some candy companies showing you what they have to sweeten up your sweet.

It seems that the people at M&Ms are really interested in not only giving your special love a little round sweet but also giving them something to put your sweets in. They really focus on candy accessories this time of year.

Click here to check out the site.

The folks at Godiva are going nuts with the hearts this year. I particularly like the little coloured hearts, hint, hint.

Emily’s has all of their treats dolled up for Valentines Day and they’re also pushing they’re chocolate covered fruit as well. I’m not sure why chocolate covered fruit is sexy, I don’t disagree I just can’t figure out the angle.

Click here to check out the site.

So it would appear that Dove’s angle this year is personalized foil wrappers for the woman you love. I guess this could work for leaving that jerk that never treated you right as well. You could always say, “Here’s something sweet, now go to hell”. Well maybe you could be a little more creative than that.

Basically all I’m trying to say by pointing out all of these sites is if any of these companies want to send me some treats that would be great, because I still haven’t bought anything for Allison and times running out.

So much to tell you this week

I’ve started to realise that update day isn’t just about telling you about the cool new review on the site any more but it’s also a look into what’s happening and what’s going to happen here at Candy Critic. All I can tell you at this point is I’ve got a few fun ideas that will be posted here on the blog. I’d like to say that I’ll have them all posted this week, but I know as well as you do that it probably wont happen. I’ll post as many as I can get done and try and be really nice about it when I fall apart and feel that I’m not posting enough and disappointing all you guys.

Look what I got in the mail… It’s a box!
And in the box are a whole bunch of other boxes.
That and a whole bunch of this paper like stringy stuff that I’m sure I’ll be finding around the house for the next month.

So what’s inside the other boxes?

Treats so yummy looking it’ll make you cry a little. Thanks gang at Makinac Fudge shop!
