Happy Easter Everybody, Here's Our Very Special Easter Review - Chips Ahoy! "Candy"

I have mixed feelings about the candy available at Easter. Generally, I really like it, lots of chocolate and plenty of fine quality sweet treats line the shelves of stores all over the place. I would say that 80% of the treats that are commonly found on store shelves are pretty good to eat. The problem I have with Easter, from a candy point of view, is the lack of creativity. It's all chocolate bunnies and eggs filled with various things. The eggs that get me the most angry are the chocolate eggs filled with wrapped candy. For some reason that really ticks me off.  There are a few exceptions to this rule, but most Easter candy while being really tasty, isn't super creative.

Click here to find out if this cookie filled egg was creative or not.

Mind Blowing Package Design

I was writing up a review yesterday (the review should be going up next week), when while opening the package I was totally blown away. This is a perfect example of Japanese form when it comes to package design.

Make sure to follow us on YouTube if  you want to get an early preview of some of our random videos.

We're also  posting special content on our Pateron page which is also pretty cool.

I Have A New Fake Flavour That I Don't Like, Thanks To This New Snack Review - Lay's 2 in 1 "Grilled Shrimp and Green Sauce"

It's important to establish this concept before I continue, there are two kinds of flavours in the snacking world, realistic flavours (sometimes real) and fake flavours. Realistic flavours are pretty self explanatory, they actually taste like the thing they're supposed to be representing. Fake flavours don't, but that's doesn't mean they're bad, it just means that the flavour evokes the thing it's supposed to represents more than it actually copies the flavour. When it comes to fake flavours, I actually enjoy most of them, the two exceptions are fake watermelon and fake banana flavouring. After writing this review however I can now add fake shrimp to this list.  I don't mind shrimp, but I generally dislike anything that's shrimp flavoured.

This Might Be The Cheesiest Review We've Ever Posted - Cal Cheese

While I did like this treat, the idea of a cheese revolution happening in the candy world terrifies me. Cheese is great, and there are lots of ways to use it in sweet foods and treat, but there are lots of ways that this ingredient could be used poorly. The crossover that scares me most is if the gross candy trend crossed over with a cheese candy trend...  It would be awful.

It's A New Episode Of Chris, Why Would You Eat That?!! - Preserved Plum Seedless

In this episode of Chris, Why Would You Eat That?!! Chris (that's me) eats some really disgusting plum candies we got in Hong Kong. It's funny that preserved fruit is where modern day candy originates from, yet so may preserved fruits are pretty horrible.

It's A New Review... With A Twist! - Milk Tablet "Sweetened Flavour"

We've decided that over the next little while we're going to play around with some new ideas for Candy Critic. One of the ideas is to do a live review on Periscope every so often that we're calling Chris's Late Night Candy Review. As you can see above, we're also recording our live review and posting it on YouTube as well. We don't have a schedule for them yet (but as the title implies, it'll be at night), as we're still working out the kinks, but we'll be sure to announce when we're going to do a new review on Facebook and Twitter.

Click here to read the more detailed written review of this treat.

Also make sure to follow us on Twitter and Facebook to find out when we're going to do another live review.

You can also follow us on YouTube to make sure you know about all the video stuff we're putting out.

Finally, if you can, please check out  our Patreon page, to find out how you can be a part of the Candy Critic team.

It's The End Of Our Gummy Review-A-Thon, And It's Pretty Fresh - Spearmint Leaves

I've never really understood what the difference between "spearmint" and regular "mint" is. I'm not sure if it's just semantics and they're exactly the same thing, or if there's something different in the flavour itself. In general I find that people who use the word "spearmint" in conversations are a little more posh than those who use the word "mint".

Click here to read our (spear)minty new candy review.

You can also follow us on Facebook and Twitter to hear about all our new content, as we make it.

Also, brand new! We're on Patreon! We're hoping that a few of you might want to join our adventure and help support us. For as little a dollar a month you can help us create new content and maybe expand a few things here at Candy Critic.

I Knew For A Fact That I Wouldn't Like This Entry In Our Gummy Review-A-Thon - Juicy Banana Gummies

There are three flavours commonly found in the candy world that I don't like, licorice, coffee, and banana. I've tried to learn to like these flavours, but at this point I've turned my hate into a sort of tolerance of these flavours. I can accept that people like these flavours, and I think I know why they like them. I just can't like them myself. This is  something to keep in mind if you're ever reading any of my reviews.

This Third Entry In Our Gummy Review-A-Thon Squirted Me - Juicy Squirts Berry

I think it's strange, but there's something I really like about a candy that squirts out a liquid when I bite into it. This doesn't really work with other foods. If you bite into a steak, a piece of broccoli, or an  apple, and it squirts, you'll  likely spit it out. Candy on the other hand is "more fun" when it squirts. I don't know why this is, I assume it's some kind of conditioning. Having a liquid center is a highlight for me when it comes to candies, and I can't say that I've ever been disappointed when it happens.

Click here to read the latest gummy review that squirted me.

Also make sure to follow us on Facebook and Twitter, you'll get a preview of some of the gummy candies up later in this review-a-thon.

Our Second Entry In Our Gummy Review-A-Thon Smiled Upon Us - Emoji Gummies

Does the fact that there are gummy emoji's mean that emojis are no longer cool, or have then entered the lexicon so firmly that they're permanent. It's hard for the candy world to join up with cool new trends because it takes a while to design and manufacture candies. By the time a candy can be put onto the market, often whatever trend it's trying to emulate is already not trendy anymore. Occasionally a candy will actually become trendy, like gummy bears, but they weren't following a trend, they made a trend.

Click here to read about these trendy(?) gummies.

You can also follow us on Twitter and Facebook to find out what other kind of gummies we'll be reviewing later this week.

It's Part 1 Of Our Gummy Review-A-Thon - Sour Belts

I think it's about time that we did a gummy review-a-thon. I've been meaning to do one for more than a year, but each time I think about doing a gummy review-a-thon, something more "interesting" comes up. This month I decided that it had to be done, and it's about time that I stopped thinking of gummies as not interesting enough.

Click here to read the first of our gummy reviews this week.

Also, make sure to follow us on Twitter and Facebook to get all of our reviews before we post them here.

Not posting another link here, as I usually do, just letting you know that we have some new stuff happening that we're going to post real soon.

This Review Looks At The Colour Pink - Kit Kat Pink

Psychologically we often associate certain colours with certain flavours, and this is particularly true with candy. The problem with this comes about when candy companies try to make a candy that's themed to a colour. For some reason it's easy to theme a candy to a flavour, like strawberry, and colour it pink. But it's not so easy to theme a candy to the colour pink, even if it has a strawberry flavour. I've seen and tasted a few colour themed treats in my life, and most of the time it just doesn't work out. I'm not sure who's to blame either, is it that candy companies don't get the candy right, or is there something mentally that just doesn't click?

Click here to find out why I thought that the Kit Kat Pink didn't work.
