It's a New Episode Of Junk Fud and You - Candy Brands You Might Not Know

I had a really hard time making this list. It's not that I didn't know about these brands, I was just worried I would insult other candy experts by pointing out brands they already knew about and assumed that they didn't. I hope you're not insulted if you know every brand on this list, or if I missed one that you think should be on here.

It's A Day Late, But It's A New Review - Sugus "Strawberry"

I'm running a little bit late this week because of the holidays. It's been a very strange holiday season for me, but I feel like this week is going to be okay. Even though I'm in lockdown, and even though things aren't going exactly as I had planned them, I still feel like these next few days are going to be fine. Best of all, I have some treats to review, and a few videos to make. That sort of thing always distracts me from the real world. While I do write about the real world occasionally, hopefully you can dig around Candy Critic a bit and find yourself a distraction.

Christmas Candy This Year

It's been a weird year, and a weird holiday season. Some of us are doing okay, other's are not. To all those not doing great right now, I'm here for you, maybe not physically, but I'm here for you. I can't say anything else except it's going to get better. It might not be the same as it was before, but it's going to get better. I'll tell you why I'm so optimistic. Around Halloween I had recently returned home from living in Asia, and even though Covid was still around, I was looking forward to being home and eating some Canadian/North American treats. Then, as more news of Covid hit, I learned that Halloween was going to be canceled, and Halloween treats were going to be reduced or entirely canceled at many stores. I felt like I was coming home to an empty house. I was worried that the world was going to remain empty and maybe never fill up again.

Then Christmas started to peek its way in, and people started to decorate their houses, and best of all for me, stores started to fill up with Christmas cheer. Sure it's not the same as in years past, but it's much better than it was at Halloween. Sure I over indulged this year, but I feel like I needed it a little. So go out and over indulge this holiday season. Maybe it won't be with food, but be extra festive no mater what you celebrate.

Click here to read yet another Christmas review.

Make sure to check out my Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook feeds to find out how I'm indulging a little.

Also be sure to read the latest issue of Snack Facts and learn all about the candy cane.

And Christmas Will Now Begin

I have a really strange Christmas ahead (as we all likely do), but I also have a few reviews that I want to post. I also have a plan... it's not a great plan, but it's a plan none the less. I'm hoping that I will be posting regular reviews over the next few weeks and treat you all to some holiday cheer. I'm not sure where Christmas ranks in the candy themed holidays, but I'm pretty sure it's in the top 3. So even though things are weird for us all, I'll do my best to keep the reviews coming all through the holidays.

The first review I've got is both chocolaty and minty. I'm pretty sure that mint is one of the most important flavours of Christmas, and chocolate... well chocolate is appropriate for every holiday.

Make sure to check out the first, of a few Christmas candies I'm reviewing this year.

Also be sure to check out my Twitter, Facebook and Instagram feeds too, we're posting interesting Christmas candy finds on it every day.

While you're in the Christmas spirit, why not check out the latest issue of Snack Facts where Sir Francis Sweetums teaches you all about the history of the candy cane.

It's Great Being Back In Canada So I Can Review Things Like Composed Taffy Sugar Cones

Whenever I live away from Canada I always start to get nostalgic about the treat that I remember from back home, but that I have not reviewed for candycritic.org. I make grand lists of these treats, and promise you (the Candy Critic reader) and myself that when I get home I'll fulfill this list of must have classic treats from home. I very rarely finish these lists, but one interesting thing that comes about is that I always re-discover treats that I love, but had forgotten about, and I always manage to review them. This new review is one such treat, and it's a treat that most certainly reminds me of home, and should have been one of the first reviews on Candy Critic.

It's Time To Roll Into A New Review - Rolo

This certainly falls into the category of candy reviews that I should have written years ago. I can't tell you why I've never written this review until now. I can tell you however that I've eaten plenty of these since this blog/site was created. The inspiration to write this review actually came from the fact that I recently reviewed the Rolo Minis. It's Time For A New Review, It's Spicy And Chewy - Spicy Cola

I don't know why, but I feel like the gum industry has gotten a little stale in the last few years. Its seems like the only gum out there is either mint, or has some kind of retro twist. I don't see great innovation in gum these days. It's not to say that I don't enjoy a chew now and again, and I certainly think there are some good gums out there. I just feel like there's nothing new for me to try. I don't know, I guess if you make a gum that you think will change my mind, let me know and I'd love to review it. This new review scratches the surface a little, but it's still not mind blowing different.

Check out what this gum did to make me think about gum innovation.

It's Time To Think About Thickness - Coffee Crisp Thins

Since the conception of this website I have been obsessed with the size of candy. I think it's really fascinating when a candy company decides to make a treat larger, smaller, or in this case thinner. I always seem to over think the reasons a candy company would want to change their treats, and if they think it's an improvement. I'll be honest, there are very few treats that have improved themselves by changing their size or dimensions. While I understand there are some companies looking at improving the health benefits of their treats by changing the size, I often find that it doesn't always work. Mostly because more candy companies seem to sell these smaller versions of their treats in larger numbers per package.

Oh No.... Oh Henry "Level Up"

If you read this review, you'll see that I liked this bar, but didn't like the theme at all. I've given it a little thought and come up with an idea about how this bar was created in my head. I imagine an office at Hershey where someone was on some social media platform when they came across the term "level up". They learned that it meant increasing something and that the "kids" where using this word. They then figured that they should take one of their candy bars and "level it up". They talked in the meeting and determined that to level something up, you have to randomly ad stuff to it, and this is how this bar was born.

It's Time To Eat Random Candies And Ask Why Would I Eat That?!! - Mixed Flavor Candy

There are several angles to this candy, all have a certain amount of risk. There's the fact that the package has little to no information about these candies. Late Night Chip Fix - Doritos Late Night "Buffalo Hot Wings"

I guess you could say that these are the best hot wings I've ever eaten. I say this because I really don't like wings that much. I'm sure it's because of the bones and the chicken skin, two parts of poultry that I don't really like. So what Frito-Lay managed to do is get all the flavour of a Buffalo hot wing and get rid of all that side stuff I don't like. I Thought I'd Eat Another Aero Truffle - Aero Truffle "Dark Cherry"

I'm pretty sure this is the end of the Aero Truffle bar. I'm seeing them on sale everywhere, and to me that's a sign that this "limited" run is over. I'm not sure if it was a success for Nestle, and frankly up until now I wasn't too sad to see them go. Then I tried this variation and I felt like there was a hope. I actually feel a little sad that this bar is going to be leaving us. I feel like there's still a problem with the concept of this bar (that bubble layer being milk chocolate instead of dark chocolate), but this dark cherry flavour is bold and pretty tasty. I hope I'm wrong about these bars going away, since I think it's great that Nestle is trying some unique flavours. I just hope, if they bring them back, they work on the chocolate a little bit.

Here's the strange thing about Reese's Pieces, I'm not really a big fan.
