A Simple Bar?

The general assumption when you say the word "simple" is that it's both easy and fairly basic. I'm here to tell you that when it comes to most milk chocolate bars with nuts, that's just not the case. While a milk chocolate bar with nuts (any kind of nut really) is very common, they're far from being easy or fairly basic. I can tell you from experience that not all milk chocolate bars with nuts are equal, even if the nuts are the same kind. This week's featured candy review is the perfect example of a simple bar, that got many different details of a great milk chocolate bar with nuts down perfectly, they messed up on one. This one mess up caused this bar from being ranked among the other great milk chocolate bars, down to one of the lower tiers of milk chocolate bars.

Find out why this chocolate bar didn't cut it, even though it's simple.

Retro Commercial Is Awesome

Not only is the commercial amazing, but the candy bar it's selling looks great too. I imagine that this bar no longer exists, but maybe if enough people ask nicely...

Milkshake Candy Bar

Of the many discontinued candy bars that I hear about, this is one I'd really like to try myself. The concept makes a lot of sense, and it seems like it would be popular today.

My comic book called Snack Facts might not be around forever as well, so why not pick up a copy right now.

The Right Ingredients, But Not

I sometimes feel like the research and development departments of some candy companies don't really understand what makes candy great. I feel like sometimes (this new review is a prime example), these companies "know" what works in a candy bar, but they don't understand why. It's too often that I try a treat that should work on paper, but the design of the bar or the quality of ingredients just makes it a complete failure. With this treat I had my hopes up, but they were dashed on the first bite.

Check out this disappointing review and find out why it failed.

Also be sure to follow me on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter too since we have a bonus review going up later this week.

If you've just eaten one of these bars, and you need something to cheer you up, pick up a copy of my book called Treats and Beasts.

How Do You Like Your Coffee?

Until recently I forgot about this tag line for the Coffee Crisp bar.  I realise that the commercial is only so funny, but the tag line lasted a really long time.

Is Peanut Butter Overused?

This week's new candy review is of the Snickers "Creamy Peanut Butter". As far as I know there has already been another Snickers with peanut butter, and in fact I would argue that just about every single major candy company has produced at least one version of their treat with peanut butter. While I do enjoy peanut butter with chocolate, I feel like this ingredient is overused. More to the point, I feel like every candy companies figures that peanut butter will always work. This may be true, but judging by this review I think it's not. Peanut butter has a particular flavour and texture and it doesn't always work with everything, and even when it does "work" it has to be used properly. Peanut butter is not just an ingredient you can slap onto every single candy bar and guarantee a winner.

Find out why this week's featured candy doesn't work, even though it has peanut butter.

Put Some Fruit On Those Pebbles

If you think about the name "Fruity Pebbles" it's a really odd concept for a cereal. I also think it might be the only regularly updated version of Fred Flintsone in cartoons. It's weird that it appears that a cereal themed to a cartoon character might live longer than the cartoon itself. It's particularly strange because it's not like the Flintsones wasn't a popular cartoon show. At its time it was the most popular cartoon for adults, ever. In some ways it was the precursor to the Simpsons. But now we're here, where there are kids buying a candy bar themed to a cereal, for a popular cartoon series they may have never seen.

Find out what I thought of this fruity bar.

Watch Them Make Kit Kat Bars

I've recently come across an amazing YouTube channel called Wondastic Tech that features amazing footage of factories making all kinds of things, including many of my favourite snacks. Watching them make Kit Kat bars is very soothing.

Scary Or Not?

At first this might come across as the most tame of all Halloween candy commercials, but just imagine if you were a Kit Kat bar watching this commercial, that's terrifying.

It's Time To Think About Thickness - Coffee Crisp Thins

Since the conception of this website I have been obsessed with the size of candy. I think it's really fascinating when a candy company decides to make a treat larger, smaller, or in this case thinner. I always seem to over think the reasons a candy company would want to change their treats, and if they think it's an improvement. I'll be honest, there are very few treats that have improved themselves by changing their size or dimensions. While I understand there are some companies looking at improving the health benefits of their treats by changing the size, I often find that it doesn't always work. Mostly because more candy companies seem to sell these smaller versions of their treats in larger numbers per package.

It's The Start Of A Candy Bar Review-A-Thon!

Sometimes I'm very specific with the review-a-thons on Candy Critic. It could be that I focus on a particular brand, or it could be that I even look at a particular treat. Other times I'm much looser, this is one of those times. I also think that when I do these very loose review-a-thons, I tend to repeat myself. I'm pretty sure I've done a candy bar review-a-thon in the past. The thing is, there are always going to be candy bars to review.

Also be sure to follow us on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter to keep up with the review-a-thon going on all week.
