European Bulk Part 2

We continue the European bulk experience with three more snacks:

Caramel things: Fruity filled caramel… so strange I think I might freak out a little.

Green and Yellow Berries: I like crunchy and gummy together, so these are ok.

Gummy Airplanes: Chewy and fruity, the Wright brothers would be proud of where their invention has gone.

Mintertainment is a new word.

The folks at Tic Tac would like to say a few words:

"Ferrero, makers of Tic Tac® breath mints, one of America's leading brands, kicks off Mintertainment, an exciting new promotion on April 15th that features a video contest and exclusive savings opportunities on popular entertainment. The contest allows consumers to submit an original video clip which creatively re-enacts or creates a Tic Tac® Moment to compete for a $10,000 grand prize. Videos must be 30 seconds or less in length with optional audio. Videos can be uploaded at http://www.mintertainment.com/.

"A Tic Tac® Moment can be described as something that best conveys the feeling consumers get from enjoying Tic Tac® mints," said William Colvard, of Veux Marketing, which created and is implementing the promotion. "The feeling can be joy, refreshment, whatever people feel. Tic Tac® Moments are as individual as the brand's consumers are."

Entries will be judged by public online voting from June 19th through July 3rd. Sixteen semi-finalists will be selected through the online votes and afterwards, a panel of judges will select the $10,000 Grand Prize winner and contest finalists. Other prizes include a $1,500 Best Buy® gift card, a year's supply of movie passes, and a year's supply of Tic Tac® Mints. According to the contest rules, only one vote for a video per email address will be allowed."

It sounds like fun.

A week of bulk madness

While in France this last week, Allison found this great little bulk candy store and picked up a whole bunch of crazy bulk treats I’d never seen before.
So all this week, and maybe into next week, I’m going to sample a few of these treats and in one sentence describe what that candy’s all about. Wish me luck.

A special kind of Bliss block party.

What a Bliss party type day. I didn’t really have what it takes to do the regular party thing; mostly I didn’t have any friends that said they could show up. So instead I decided to turn my Bliss Party (the folks at Hershey’s gave me all the party favours I needed) into a Bliss block party.
I decided to knock on doors in my neighbourhood with bags full of party fun things.
I’d awkwardly explain what I was doing. People looked at me funny. They saw the free chocolate and loot in the bag and would generally smile.

It was fun going around with bags of treats. Everybody was down with the idea.

One neighbour wasn’t home. But I wasn’t going to let a simple lock keep me away from making their day.

I sure hope they enjoy the surprise sitting in their dinning room.

Plain and simple, it’s update day.

It’s not that we have that many regular days here at Candy Critic. In fact when we have a regular one we tend to celebrate it with a huge party, which inevitably changes that day into a fun filled party day thus eliminating the “regular” day. This update day isn’t that regular either because we got a cool new snack to try out. So I guess the title is a bit of a lie because we have no “plain and simple” days here at Candy Critic.

Candy Music?

I saw this poster for Madonna’s new Album ‘Hard Candy’. I get the feeling based off the picture that she’s not going to be singing about the virtues of sugary snacks.

Happy National Pretzel Day

They’re salty and kind of look like a face (if you squint). So go get yourself a bag and crunch away!

Crazy week, crazy commercial

It’s been a crazy week here at Candy Critic so I thought this totally insane commercial would help you know what headspace we’re all in right now.

Bliss party stuff

Don’t forget that this Friday is the whole crazy Bliss party thing. The folks Hershey reminded me by sending a package full of Party stuff to help me celebrate.
And what say’s party better than a bag of pens. “Wooohoooo, hey everybody let’s get crazy and dictate memos to each other!”

Happy National Jellybean Day

Here’s a little known and hard to believe fact about me.

As is most people my least favourite jellybean is the black one. It’s gross and frankly when ever I buy a bag I try and pick out the one with the least of these. I hate them so much that given the choice between eating jellybeans and not if they’re black ones I’ll choose not.
The interesting fact here is that the red ones are not my favourite. In fact I’m a huge fan of the green ones, but only if they’re mint.

Update starts with U

This is a great day here at Candy Critic, why do you ask? Well today is the day that we finally get a treat that starts with the letter “U” up into the reviews. I’ve searched around for one for a little while now and finally we have the hole filled. I’d like to thank all those who supported us here in our great search, and for those that doubted us in the past I simply say, “It’s already been brought”.

Dill-agent choice

A while back I wrote and article for the National Post here in Canada about what the perfect Canadian treat might be. Bellow my article was an article written by the Prime Minster of Canada’s wife Laureen Harper all about the virtues of Old Dutch Dill Pickle Potato Chips only available in the western part of Canada. Well on my little journey last week I happened to have had a stop in western Canada so I searched out a bag. What I found was that they not only had dill pickle but also creamy dill. The Old Dutch people are dill crazy.

I figure I’d start with the creamy dill. These things are pretty good too. I thought it would be just dill with like a sour cream flavour but there seems to be a little pickle in it too. I’m impressed and I haven’t even tried la piece de resistance.

Now these aren’t bad (I’ll give more details when I review them later). They’re a little sharper than the creamy dill and I thought the smell was a little stronger. It’s hard to tell which is better but I may have to go with the creamy dill. So Mrs. Harper if you haven’t tried the creamy dill yet I recommend you give them a try.

Happy National Pecan day!!! And something strange too.

I’m not 100% sure that the photo above is of something with pecans actually in it but I figure it’ll do in a pinch, we can always pretend. I didn’t actually manage to eat any pecans today but Allison just finished a bowl of cereal that was chock full of them.
Also in the news… It would appear that stealing candy is back in style again in the crime scene. It’ll be a matter of time till organized crime gets involved and the world becomes a very different place.

Happy National Licorice Day

Well actually it was yesterday but I figure that Licorice day should really be a whole weekend thing anyways. The folks at Red Vines sent me a whole bunch of licorice to enjoy for the occasion so I thought a review was the best way to celebrate. Fortunately for them it’s a pretty positive review too.

Time off is now over.

You may have noticed a lack of posts lately; I assure you that I still love you all. Allison and I just went up north (yup Canada has some really north bits) to check out the attractions.
But don’t worry; I’ve got all kinds of stuff to talk about. Like these strange bear candies my friend sent me.

And the mysteries of Old Dutch Chips.
