Candy In The Media

Sweetarts are kind of like the older wiser brother of rockets (or in the USA they call them Smarties).  This month we're featuring videos of candy factories making candies that one might get on Halloween.  This week it's Sweetarts, a treat that I would often be very happy to get in my bag.  If I had to describe them to someone who's never tried them, yet they've tried rockets, then I would say they're similar, yet much higher quality.

A Halloween Candy Costume Thing - Part 4

Every year I like to feature a candy themed costume that has a little sex appeal.  I'm not sure if this is really "sexy" as much as it is creepy, but it seems to be going for the sexy look.  The one thing this Umpa Lumpa costume has done, is made me think.  Why weren't there any lady Umpa Lumpas in either of the movies (or the book I assume)?  They wouldn't have to sell sex like this costume does, but I'm sure all those Umpa Lumpas would have enjoyed a little female companionship after working the line at the Wonka factory.

This Week In Candy

Well the Halloween week is upon us, and I couldn't be happier!  I'm also really happy to be back home from an epic trip to Southern Africa.  Since I'm going to be super busy with all of the Halloween festivities this week, I'll wait till November to write about my African experiences.  My most pressing issue is that I don't have a Halloween costume.  That wouldn't be much of an issue except for the fact that I have a Halloween party to attend.  Even more pressing is the fact that I'm one of the hosts of the party, so it would be pretty wrong for me to show up with no costume.  I was going to look for something in Africa, but I didn't find anything relevant.

As for the return of the trip, I had a few vacation epiphanies while crossing the African Savanna.  I've decided to use Halloween as a new year at Candy Critic, and with this new year comes some changes.  Nothing major, and mostly additions.  I don't want to announce anything official, but come November Candy Critic will have a few new projects for your to enjoy.

Since I'm so busy setting up everything (and planning a party), Snack Facts is taking the week off.  Next week we'll be back with a whole bunch of new facts, however this week it'll be pretty quite.

We do have a new review this week, and it's terrible.  I normally don't like to give reviews away, but I just can't help myself.  I've noticed a trend in Halloween candy, and it's often terrible.  Fortunately that makes writing the review pretty simple, particularly when it's very obvious why the review is terrible.  Click here to read the terrible review.

Candy In The Media

All this week we're featuring videos of candy factories, in particular candies that you may receive on Halloween.  While you don't often receive Pez on Halloween, when you do it's either really great, or really crappy.  It's great when you get a new Pez dispenser in your bag because frankly they're not cheap, and that's a high quality treat to be handing out.  They're kind of crappy when someone gives you a Pez refill pack, because you just can't eat it until you get home and put it in a dispenser.  It's really crappy if someone just gives you a single brick of Pez, that's worth an egging if you ask me.

A Halloween Candy Costume Thing - Part 3

A few weeks ago I posted what I thought was the worst candy themed Halloween costume ever.  I gave that one credit though, because it was instantly recognizable as a candy.  This costume on the other hand is also fairly cheap looking, and even with the description "Adult Cookie Costume", I'm still not convinced.  It look more like a pizza from a 1940s black and white cartoon than a cookie.  I have to give this guy credit though, he's selling the costume to the best of his ability.

This Week In Candy

Halloween is coming, and we're super excited about it!

This week we're continuing with our blog posts all about this most awesome of holidays, at least when it comes to candy.  This Friday we'll be posting another video all about how they make one of your favorite Halloween treats.. well sort of.  This Wednesday we'll also be posting another in our list of candy themed Halloween costumes.  Speaking of which, we still don't know what we should dress up as this year.  We have a party to attend, but nothing to wear.  Any suggestions?

The biggest problem we have with getting a costume is the fact that we're not home right now.  We're still in Africa trying to see cool animals, explore fun places, and track down African candy.  We'll be back soon, before Halloween for sure.  It just makes it hard to find a costume while you're traveling.

Candy In The Media

Of all of the candies that we're featuring this month on our videos of potential Halloween candies you might get list, Airheads might be my least favourite.  I say this for two reasons.  First of all I always seem to get the watermelon or green apple Airheads, and both of those flavours really don't do it for me.  Secondly I once chipped my tooth on a stale Airhead, and memories like that stick with you.

A Halloween Candy Costume Thing - Part 2

As we continue our look at candy themed Halloween costumes, this week we've got something a little obscure, yet totally recognizable.  While this isn't a "candy costume" per-se, it is candy related.  Taken from one of the most famous candy scenes in television history, this I Love Lucy candy maker outfit is pretty cool  Sure some of the "kids" today might not get it, but all us old time candy fans will understand you.

This Week In Candy

We're still on the road to Halloween, and we're continuing our month with cool posts to help you celebrate the ultimate candy holiday.  This Wednesday we're featuring another candy themed costume, I'm sure if you get a rush delivery you could get it for yourself this holiday season.  On Friday we're also continuing with our series on how they make some of the candies you might get this year on Halloween.

As I also mentioned last week, we're away.  I'm not sure where we are exactly right now, but it's somewhere in Southern Africa.  Maybe by now I've seen an elephant or a lion, that would be cool.  I'm sure I've probably also already found a few fun African treats, and maybe even posted them on our Twitter feed or Facebook page.

Since we're away that also means Snack Facts, our Instagram feed is running slightly irregular.  But don't worry, we'll post fun snack facts as we go, and as we get Internet access, which might be sparse at times.

Candy In The Media

All this month we're looking at how some of your favourite Halloween candies are made. This week we're starting with one of the best loved classic candies that always seems to find its way into my candy bag, M&Ms.  Even if I'm not trick-or-treating, I often find a bowl of these at any Halloween party I may be at.

A Halloween Candy Costume Thing - Part 1

With Halloween approaching, it's time here at Candy Critic to look at candy themed Halloween costumes.  today we're looking at probably one of the best and worst costumes all in one.  It's a pretty cheesy looking costume, and it kind of looks like it was made hours before this kid showed up at a Halloween party.  The redeeming thing about this costume however is the fact that you know exactly what he's supposed to be dressed as. Personally I'd rather have people talking behind my back about what a crappy costume I'm wearing, over people asking me what I'm supposed to be dressed as.

This Week In Candy

It's Halloween month!  That means we'll have all kinds of fun posts about the best candy themed holiday of the year.  On our regular Wednesday "Candy Thing" posts we're reviving a tradition we have here at Candy Critic and we're going to feature wacky candy themed costumes.  All this month on our Candy in the Media blog posts (posted every Friday), we're going to look how some of your favorite Halloween candy is made.

While you're busy checking out all our Halloween content, we're actually going to be away.  As you read this we're already in Africa on an epic adventure.  We'll be posting as often as we can of Twitter and Facebook all about our adventures thus far.

Since we're away, Snack Facts wont be posting regularly.  Instead we'll post things as we find them on our adventure.  Sometimes we post more often than once a day, sometimes if the Internet isn't available, we can't post at all.  But make sure to check our Instagram feed for anything while we're gone.

No reviews while we're gone either... Man what a bummer, I'm sure we've found some pretty cool African candies buy now too.  I guess we'll just have to wait till we get back to post anything about them.

Candy In The Media

All through the month of October, we're featuring videos of your favorite candies being made.  Hopefully most of them will be candies you'll get on Halloween too.  To start off, we're looking at a candy you're almost guaranteed to be getting, but not everybody is going to be happy about that.  Candy corn is probably the most divisive Halloween candy treat in the world.
