New Doritos

I just found these new Doritos on the shelf at my local store and it seems like an interesting idea. They mix two flavours in one bag. I wonder how they do it and if it works. Sadly I won’t be tasting these because the two flavours are ‘blue cheese’ and ‘hot wings’ and I hate them both.

Candy from friends

Last weekend Allison and I had some friends over and not only did they bring a nice bottle of wine but they also brought treats for me.
I have to admit that normally when people bring me treats they just bring me stuff I’ve already had. Not that I mind that, but I really love it when people discover new things for me, mainly because I’m kind of lazy.
In particular I’m really looking forward to trying this little square called “PK”. I have no idea what it is or where it’s from.

Aww rats!

I went to the dollar store today and found this neat little package from the movie Ratatouille. It’s sort of candy but not really.

The candy is just a little trough full of chocolate cream, kind of like Nutella.
In the trough next to it there was a little chef man in a little blue egg. I guess this packaging allows people in the US to purchase it. For those that aren’t up on their American packaging laws apparently you can’t have a toy inside candy in the US because they’re afraid kinds might choke on the toys.

3 things I learned about 3 Musketeers from a very girl friendly magazine add.

I was flipping through the magazine because I was bored, I swear. I came across this add and was astonished to learn some new facts about a bar that I really haven’t eaten in a few years.

Apparently it has a lot less fat 45% less fat, than other bars. Although the more I think about it the more it makes sense, since it’s all whipped and stuff. I wonder how it compares per pound to other chocolate bars.

I also discovered that they come in mint too. I’ve never seen a mint 3 Musketeers yet and now I really want to try one.

See, candy is universal.

My friend Penelope got this great shot of two kids trying to get some treats in Antigua Guatemala. I’m not sure if they’re exploring the mechanics to see if they can get some bonus treats but I know I’ve spent many a day staring up the shoot of a gumball machine.

Update Day with musical background

Well actually you can’t hear the music right now, unless you happen to be reading this with music playing in which case you do. If you’re listening to the ‘Garden State’ soundtrack it’s just kind of eerie. This weeks review is also a little eerie, mainly because us North Americans normally don’t get too many green tea treats.

Today in my life

On a day out with friends today I have some cool things to report.
We started at La Cigale (which means Cicada like the bug) in Chelsea Quebec and got some awesome ice cream. I recommend this place if you’re ever in the area. We went for a whole tub so we could have a lid and also because I’m an ice cream monster.
I also found out about a new candy store opening in my area, yay!
Finally I tried a new kind of hamburger. See that sauce on my tray, it’s not mayo, or ketchup, it’s peanut butter. Cheese and peanut butter are ok on a burger, but make for really slow eating.

I love this song

Old cartoons, Sonny and Cher and candy, it really doesn’t get better than this.

CC

Two things…

1 - I think I’m going to try and regularly post candy advertising I see on the street (things like delivery trucks, billboards and other sign things).

2 – I need a shave.

No Bull

This morning I awoke to find the Red Bull car sitting in my neighbourhood. This is better than seeing Santa on Christmas Eve.

Greatest name for a snack store ever.

For years now there’s been this little snack store in Union station in Toronto. When I was a kid I used to get snacks there before I went to my grandfathers house (we took the train there).
It’s called “Nuts and Things”. Now if that name was made up to be cheesy, like the name of some of the candy specialty stores I wouldn’t think much of it. But this place has had this name long before candy specialty stores existed. I think that makes it all the cooler.

It was a rainy update day when I came to realise that in fact yesterday was update day.

Really yesterday was a holiday and I was off touring around enjoying a little vacation, so really you can’t blame me, can you? I mean I know I have a pretty “sweet” deal here but once in a while I like to get away and enjoy some nutritious vegetables and eat something without a sugar frosting.

Happy National Chocolate Chip Day!

Put them in your cookies, or just pop them in your mouth.
Give three cheers for the most functional form of chocolate ever!

Two and a half things about the Indiana Jones M&Ms.

So I just picked up a couple of packages of the Indiana Jones themed M&Ms. One of the packs if for review (the new Mint Crisp flavour) but I figured I’d pick two packs up to check out all the cool new features for this movie. (P.S. the half is the fact that there’s a new flavour).
First of all the new packages have a picture from the classic films with an M&M character in costume delivering a witty line.
Man I sure hope Dr Jones didn’t break anything.
Secondly all the M&Ms have new little symbols on them. Some look kind of like skulls but most where just indecipherable. I found one in the mint pack that looked like and M with a hat, but other than that it’s pretty much just a guess as to what they’re supposed to be.

Motherly Update Day

I’m on the phone with my mom right now, I’m listening to her talk about all the phone problems she’s having right now. It’s kind of sad, I bet a Caramilk Deluxe would make her happy. Too bad she lives too far away to get her some right now.

No S’mores… A message from the fine folks at Hershey’s.

“With summer just around the corner, I wanted to share some fun, summertime s'mores recipes. Toasted s’mores have been enjoyed by families and friends around the campfire for more than 80 years, and the great news this summer is that the classic combination of ingredients found in s’mores - milk chocolate, graham crackers and marshmallows - is no longer reserved for the campfire. Toasting marshmallows over the grill or wrapping pre-made s’mores in aluminium foil and heating them on the grill makes a perfect dessert to accompany a backyard barbeque.

If the weather won’t let-up, the oven, microwave and even the freezer can be used to create perfect s’mores treats. From S’mores Sandwich Bar Cookies to S’mores Ice Cream Pie, www.smoresfun.com features a host of great recipes and cooking suggestions from the experts at The Hershey’s Kitchens.”

Microwave S’mores never worked for me I may have to investigate this further.

European Bulk Part 9

Two kinds of cherries and a random flower thing, this is going to be ok.
Big Cherry: It’s big chewy and cherry, I really have nothing creative to say.
Small Cherry: Much like the big cherry above only less big and more small.

Fruity Flan: Marshmallow bottom and fruity top, I like the top more than the bottom.

Purple Flower: I thought it was grape for a minute, then it turned into a perfume flavour, happy then sad were my emotions.

Where is the love?

What they heck happened to my Aero bar. It’s all full of love and stuff. What I want to know is which chocolate treat has the courage to change its name to hate.

CC

European Bulk part 8

Here are just a few of the bulk treats I’ve been avoiding due to fear.
White Cube Things: It taste like a soapy chewy pine tree, very gross.
Peas and Lard: Peas licorice gross, Lard flavourless thankful flavour wasn’t lard.
Just in case you don’t believe in this snack, here’s a close up.
Purple Little Cylinders: Really chewy and kind of soapy flavoured, almost plastic like.
It’s a torturous day for Candy Critic.

Candied Salmon Problem

This weekend some fine friends of mine picked me up a cool little gift while on vacation on the west coast. It was a bag of Candied Smoked Salmon.
I love when my friends pick me up strange and fun candies while on vacation. The question I have is weather or not this is a candy? Should I review it? I’m a little stumped about this one. I’ll most definitely post something, but I’m not sure if it’s BLOG or review material.

CC

European Bulk part 7

Today I decided to go with things that are a little less threatening, although I am a little apprehensive of the gummy apples.
Gummy Peach: A little chewier than other gummy peaches I’ve had I think I like them a little more.
Brown Wire Things: Cola flavoured and apparently they do not conduct electricity.
Gummy Apples: Subtle flavour at first, then it got a little yucky.

Update day is nothing like cheese. I can’t tell you why; I think I may just be craving cheese.

Today was a day of getting my garden in order, sleeping in a little, and eating European bulk candy. Now I’m sure your saying that me complaining about eating candy is pretty much the dumbest thing you’ve ever heard about, and you may be right. But the pile just seems to be never ending and I’m really just waiting for the moment that I bite into something so repulsive that I pass out and die. This weeks review fortunately isn’t that bad although I have no idea what “Chai” is at all.

European Bulk part 6

Berries: Tasty, fruity and thank god the black one was black berry and not licorice.
Gummy Cows: They taste a little creamy and fruity too, just like a cow should.

European Bulk part 5

Teeth, teeth and more teeth.Goofy Teeth: So strange that teeth taste fruity, I would expect them to taste bloody.

Vampire Teeth: Fruity, Chewy, and not only do they not taste like blood but shouldn’t they help you drink it too?

CC

European Bulk part 4

Well it’s first thing in the morning on Saturday, and what better way to start your day off right than a plate full of gummies.
Gummy Fried Eggs: Soft on the bottom chewy on the top, opposite kind of to a real egg.

Gummy Berry Purple: Chewy but doesn’t taste purple, kind of tastes like perfume, yuck.

Gummy Berry Red: See Berry Purple but switch purple with red.
