Just Ad Nuts

Is just adding nuts really a solution to creating new candy treats?  I think at times it works, but I'm not sure if it's really that creative.  I've said this before, and I'll say it again, with the millions of dollars that the candy industry makes every years, why can't they invest in creating more treats, instead of just making small variations to pre-existing treats?
