Marshmallows, in the huge range of candy treats available in the world, this one ranks really low for me. Or at least it used to rank really low. In the past I used to think of marshmallows as fairly tasteless globs of white that only worked when toasted, or at the very least melted and mixed with chocolate. I could never figure out those people that could sit down with a bag of marshmallows and just pop them in their mouths. All I would ever get from a raw marshmallow was some sweet powder followed by a mouth full of chewy, tasteless, glop.
Things are changing though. Today you can find so many varieties of marshmallows it will make your head spin. The flavours, and colours, go way beyond the standard white nothing flavour of the past. Today you can find marshmallows in every colour and shape imaginable. You can even find many places that make high end marshmallows full of natural flavours and with a much improved chewy texture.
I'm starting to find myself being swayed over to the marshmallow side of life. I no longer see every marshmallow as simply being good material to stuff your pillow. Instead I'm seeing a variety of tastes and textures.
Even cooler is I'm starting to see creative designs as well. I think the art of the high end and novelty marshmallows is still a young art, but it has great potential for the future.
I even see myself craving a taste of some of these new creations now and again.
