To me, there's nothing that says sweet baked treat more than a donut.  Sure there are some other sweet baked treats that I crave, and some that might even taste better than donuts. But I keep coming back to these round tasty delights.  I used to think that donuts were a Canadian thing, or at the very least North American, but as I've traveled more and more, I've realized that almost every culture in the world loves donuts, and that's a beautiful thing.
