I always felt that strawberry ice cream gets a bum rap.  I can't say that it's my favorite ice cream, but I don't think it has as much to do with the strawberry as a flavour, but more about how most companies make their strawberry ice cream.  Chocolate ice cream often contains real cocoa, vanilla ice cream often contains real vanilla (in extract or bean), but how often have you bit into a strawberry while eating strawberry ice cream.  Haagen-Dazs made a really good strawberry ice cream called Very Berry Strawberry, and it was great because when you bit into it, you would bite into strawberries.
