Aujourdui on va fair une review tres unique.

As you can tell by the most likely misspelled title of this weeks update the treat I got to munch was French. I picked these up while in a grocery store in France, and I’m sure you’re all asking the same question and the answer is yes. I did enjoy a lovely crepe right before I picked up this bag of sweet goodness. I also saw a guy riding his bike up the street with a huge baguette in the front basket.

Shiny no?

People always tell me how cool it must be to be the Candy Critic and what a cool job I have. Well this morning I had what one would call an occupational hazard. I had a little visit to the dentist and I think they managed to pull off about 4 pounds of tartar during my cleaning.

Indian Desert Treat!

The other night Allison (and her mother) and I went for a lovely night of Indian Buffets (use the “s” at the end because if sounds cool). The meal was great but while checking out the massive dessert choices I decided to try something new. Just for your information I’m pretty familiar with the Jell-O, the worms in cream looking thing, as well as the sticky dough ball things.

What I was interested in trying was that cheese looking ball.

I can tell you that my guess was correct; it was ball like and cheesy. It wasn’t the greatest thing I’ve ever eaten, but it was a fun adventure none the less.

Chinese Moon Festival

Today is the day of the Chinese Moon Festival; more importantly today is the day that everybody should eat (or at least try) a Chinese Moon Pie. Having said that if you can’t get your hands on one of those a Hostess Half Moon cake treat will suffice.

Update day after a party

Well last night was a great time. We had a little shindig chez Candy Critic’s home base. It wasn’t to celebrate anything “Candy Critic” but as always much candy was discussed, eaten and a few complaints now and again. So needless to say we’re all pretty burnt out today, but not too burnt out that we could give you another awesome review. Well the treat itself isn’t really awesome, but we’re pretty happy with the whole idea of tasting it and stuff. I personally like the name, mostly because I don’t really like cows and it seems more like instructions on how to provoke a cow than a lollypop.

Speaking of lollypops we hope to be adding the new “lollypop” section to the review categories soon.

Island Drink

On my recent… Ok maybe not so recent, it was a few month ago. So, on my not so recent trip to PEI I found this fun little bottle of Raspberry Cordial in a gift shop.

For those that aren’t really into books, PEI is the birthplace of Lucy Maud Montgomery author of Anne of Green Gables. So as you can imagine there’s a tone of merchandise with that little red head girl on it. I was surprised at how few candy treats there where with her on it so at the site of this bottle I had to have some.
Well I obviously wasn’t that excited because I took it home shoved it in the fridge and pretty much forgot about it until recently.

Honestly it wasn’t bad, but it’s also wasn’t that spectacular. I think the thrill of finding it in the back of my fridge was probably more exciting than the drink itself.

Bear with me

This month among the many great treats the Candy of the Month Club members will receive is a Toblerone Bar. So what’s so special about that? Well first of all it’s a pretty fine chocolate treat.
Secondly thanks to this helpful site, I’ve discovered the hidden bear in the Toblerone logo. So members enjoy, and the rest of you will just have to go out and get your own bar.

Ahhhhhhhhh, it’s chocolate!

Man sometimes it’s good to be grown up. I mean who’s gonna tell me not to go out and get a box of what could possibly be the best cereal in the world, eat it for breakfast lunch and dinner? Something about horror movies, chocolate, and marshmallows (or at least that’s what they call them).
I also love the fact that I can decorate my room with a scary poster, well maybe slightly startling… ok it’s pretty much not scary at all. Let’s examine the more terrifying aspects of this box.
Well there are bats on the box, that’s pretty scary. I mean who isn’t even a little freaked out by bats? After all some do actually suck blood, that’s pretty creepy.
The scissors could be really sharp. One could get a nasty cut, and that would expose some blood, and who knows maybe one of those bats may fly down and it only gets worse from there.
Fangs, that’s scary and… wait a minute Count Chocula doesn’t have fangs, he has buckteeth! This is pathetic, how is he supposed to instil chocolaty fear with buckteeth?

Up Up and a daaaaaaay!!

This week we take a look under the sea. Actually we take a look on the third shelf just on the right of the 7-11 near my house, because that’s where I found this little treasure. It really makes me wonder who does all the ordering for late night convenience stores, because they have some crazy candy sometimes and most of the employees that work there don’t really look like the type to order things like the Mother of Pearl. Maybe next time I’m in a 7-11 I’ll ask.

Yesterday

I forgot to tell you!

Yesterday was Fortune Cookie day as well as peanut day. I hope you didn’t miss out, I would have posted sooner but with two important events like that in one day I may have partied it up a little too hard.

Happy National Chocolate Milk Shake Day!

Today is national Chocolate Milk Shake day! I’m not really sure why you’d have this day so late in the year. I’ mean I’d rather have had one a couple of months ago. Maybe it’s some kind of scam brought on by the milk shake industry goons.
Either way if you’ve ever needed an excuse to get a chocolate milk shake I’m officially giving you one.

BOOOOOOOOOM!

People often ask me how I choose my treats to review on Candy Critic. Sometimes it’s the fact that it’s a classic treat. Other times it’s because the treat appears to be something that I just can’t pass up. In this particular case it was just what was written on the package. “Fruit Flavoured Explosion” it sounds painful and yummy all at the same time.

Update date days are back!

Yes I know I missed last weeks update day, yell sneer do what ever makes you feel better. But don’t worry because I’m back this week with a classic purely Canadian treat. I like having “Canadian” treats on Candy Critic, mainly because I’m Canadian. It really surprises me how many great candies us Canadian have all to our selves. I’m not sure how many of them are exported around the world, but if you get a chance to try one let me know how it goes for you.

Also (on a side note) I just thought I’d let you know that I’m getting some serious spam right now so if you need to contact me or anybody at Candy Critic the absolute best way is to use the e-mail form.

It’s white like my milk!

It would appear that Oreo wasn’t happy enough with just giving us the double stuff. Which in my mind is a scam because we all know they just reduced the cream in their regular cookies so “double stuff” was just old regular.

Now a day they offer a huge selection of types of Oreos these golden Oreos being one of the newest.

Allison told me that they had already came out with these a while ago and they where known as Ops Oreos (or something like that). I have to be honest I worry that cookie companies are going the way of many of the chocolate bar companies with variations of old treats instead of new ones. It’s not interesting and to me a little boring.

“No prescription required”

So I was out and about at around lunchtime and I came across a new DR Pepper. Not that I really thought they ever needed to expand into gimmicks, I always took them as a bit of a gimmicky soda already.
The good news is it’s not that bad. The bad news is that it’s because it barely taste any different than regular Dr Pepper. Maybe it has a slight tinge of cream soda mixed in but you really have to concentrate to taste it.

From happy to sad in one suck

How do you feel about yourself? Feeling peppy like you have the world at your fingertips?
Well the folks at Embitermints want to knock you down a peg or two. That or help you knock another one of those jolly too happy jerks down a few pegs. They just sent me a couple of packs of these fine and cruel mints that I’ll be reviewing soon.

I’ll vote for it!

I love the fact that the Ontario government is endorsing the eating chocolate and chips. It’s about time they dropped the old healthy living stuff.

Hmmm…

As you may have been able to tell, Candy Critic has been a little slow on the updates lately, but that will soon come to an end. We’re trying to streamline all the info on the site so it’s a little easier to follow. First of all we’re getting rid of the news section on the site and just going to report things here on the blog. Also we’re going to use the blog to announce all updates and up coming ideas we have, in fact we’re pretty much going to switch over everything to the blog except the actual reviews. We may still do an article or two if we really feel it’s needed but for the most part for all our extra content (stuff other than review) the blog will be the place to go. We also plan on giving you guys more of what this site is all about… Reviews!

Thanks for your patients.
