One of the stops we took on our road trip across Ontario was into Cochrane. This tiny little town is the doorstep to the great north of Ontario where there aren’t even any roads (they have a train that goes all the way to Hudson’s Bay). Best of all however is I have never seen a town with such a high number of candy and treat shops per capita in my life. Above is the very clever “Weigh to Save” bulk food store that has all kinds of great treats.
They also have a local chocolate shop with fun gift baskets and hand made chocolates. For a town of like 3000 this is pretty amazing.
But it doesn’t end there. What Cochrane has is the best movie theatre/ice cream parlour/video store ever. Since this is a site about candy I’ll focus on the ice cream parlour. It not only has a good selection of hard ice cream…
But it also has the largest selection of soft ice cream I’ve ever seen in my whole life. 24 flavour to choose from as well as the classics and those flavours you can get twisted into your ice cream.
I went with a classic cheesecake soft serve and I was totally impressed.

This place sounds like heaven.
I can't believe you didn't try anything more exciting than cheesecake.
I think a good cheesecake flavour is simple and really hard to get right. However when it is right it's spectacular.
HAHAHA this is amazing!
I live and grew up here.
Population 5500 actually.
And yes, it's pretty great.
Wow, a true Cochranaite.
I was born and raised in Cochrane. It's nice to look at these pics and remember the "Good 'ol days"
Thanks for the memories.

At first I was surprised by how many Cochraneits have commented to me about this post. Then I thought about it, so many great places to get sweet treats in a small town probably leads to reading strange candy blogs on the internet.
