I have to say I'm kind of disappointed with this list of food trends from the Center for Culinary Development for the year 2010. I'm disappointed mostly due to the lack sweets on the list, the only sweet trend of this year seems to be "Parisian Macaroons". I also find that this list is a little snobby as well. Most of these foods are really only trendy in those markets where you shop because you have a really trendy friend and you want to bring something to their pot luck party. Many of the great new trends in cooking and eating seem to be left out, and I'm guessing because they're not super expensive.

I would like to comment on your comments as the author of the CCD trend list. I take issue with your assessment of the list as expensive things. Some of the items, especially bahn mi and bao sandwiches, are inexpensive street food. Eggs all day are pretty affordable as are the better burgers; sure, there are white-table cloth burgers that are pretty pricey, but lots of more casual restaurants have upgraded their burger offerings, including many fast food restaurants. As for sweets, salty-sweets, bacon sweets and everything caramel/butterscotch/toffee have been trending for a long time, yet still were in happy evidence in 2010. And Parisian macarons are spelled with only one 'o' to distinguish them from the American coconut variety. These food trends represent a bigger sea change in food values, really, including better taste, better quality and lots of DIY things, like the eggs and all the condiments and preserves, which are all about saving money.
When it boils down to "trend" lists I'm often disappointed. I find that there is a certain amount of elitist attitude that comes out of this lists. For example, when it mentions the bahn mi and bao sandwiches there's also mention of all the cool cities that they can now be found. This list pretty much ignores popular food markets around the world and in non-trendy cities. This list is directed at a particular reader and it's implying that what's listed is what is cool to eat and if you're not in the know, you're not cool.
Price wise some of these foods aren't super expensive sure, but often they become niche foods because they appear on lists like this and then you start paying more for them then before. It's good for those making the foods I guess, but it sucks for the consumer that enjoys them.
I guess my complaint about the lack of sweets was just being silly, seeing as this is a candy related site I figured I'd stick up for my interests.
I don't mind people listing foods that they like, or foods that they've recently discovered and like. But to imply that these foods are what's popular is untrue, unless you have statistics to back it up.
