Candy News - With the Superbowl last night, there are a couple of new candy commercials that premiered. I think there were many fewer food and candy advertisements this year, and more car adds. Two commercials stood out for me: First, the new M&Ms commercial was pretty clever, I always wondered how they could make brown M&Ms into a character and I think they did a great job. As always, Doritos had a great couple of entries this year, but this one both disturbed me and entertained me at the same time.
What's Happening At Candy Critic - Well the new version of the Candy Critic site is up and running. The site will now focus only on reviews, and the blog will cover everything else. To do this we had to take down some of the older articles, but they're not lost forever. We'll be re-posting many of the articles on this blog until all the relevant ones are online. We've also made it easier for you to try many of the treats we've reviewed with links to Amazon on as many reviews as we could. We're still cleaning a few things in the background but I hope the new site works well and work a lot fast than it did in the past.
Rant - I have a future article about the origins of a particular candy bar that I'm working on, and I have to say, it's really hard getting an accurate account of the history of many chocolate bars and candies. Every company that makes any treat always claims it was "their idea". There is so little talk about the buying and stealing of candy ideas in the business and that's a shame. It's not like buying an idea from another candy company and manufacturing it yourself is something to be ashamed of. Being able to spot a great treat that needs more marketing to succeed is an amazing feat. Stealing these ideas might be a little underhanded, but a historical record of this should be made.
