Taking a train through sugar cane country in Queensland, you really get an idea how big an industry sugar is. As far as I knew you could only use sugar cane for sweet treats, as a preservative/emulsifier, and in some building materials, but Allison said that they're starting to us it as a fuel source as well. I wonder how that kind of use will affect candy prices.
Either way, it's always fascinating to see where your food comes from. Particularly when it's junk food.
