I love candy and snacks, but I'm not sure if I love them enough to have them permanently embedded on my skin.
A food tech company has discovered that the best way to take the edge off of cocoa may not be milk or sugar, instead it's mushrooms.
It appears that Mars is going to increase the price of their chocolate, but don't worry, many smaller companies are not following suit.
Summer is here, and that means state fairs and carnivals are happening, and that means food like this is available.
Trendy foods are both good and bad. They're good because they can promote creativity and innovation, they're bad because you find yourself in line for 30 minutes just to eat a crappy donut.
Last week I mentioned that I wanted to try this new "raw chocolate" trend, well this week I've learned that maybe I don't.
Dark chocolate keeps gaining in popularity, it's no milk chocolate yet, but some day it might be more popular.
Apparently Chupa Chups are branching out into clothing, I wonder if they have special pockets to hold lollipops?
In the 1900s a German chocolate company decided that they would distribute cards depicting what the year 2000 would be like with their chocolate. The results are awesome.
Over the next few weeks I'm going to be traveling a lot, and I'm not really sure how well I'll be able to keep up the weekly Candy News posts. I will however be updating the Twitter feed as regularly as I can, so you can still keep up with the news there. The news feed should return to normal in about 6 weeks.

The New Sucker Review
at
12:00 PM
The older I get, the less I understand lollipops. When I was a kid the idea of eating a candy on a stick made perfect sense. Why would you want to keep that candy in your mouth all the time, you need a break. Now that I'm a bit older, and a lot more paranoid about germs, I find myself not wanting to expose my candy to the outside air. I find that even when I eat a lollipop, I rarely take it out of my mouth. At that point the stick just becomes more of a hindrance. Fortunately today's review also brought back some fond childhood memories, so the stick didn't become an issue.

Gummy Crossover Review

It's amazing that some candies have become so popular, that other candy companies licence them to make other candies. It happens a lot, but we don't really think about it all the time. I'm sure you've sampled a couple of ice creams featuring popular chocolate bars. These ice creams aren't made by the chocolate bar company, instead the ice cream maker pays the chocolate bar company to use their logos and branding. In a perfect world you would imagine that the original candy company would check to make sure that their product is being represented well, but frankly I see so many bad representations, that I seriously doubt much thought is given. That's why I often find these offshoots don't hold up well to the classic treat they're trying to represent.

Classic/Creative Candy Advertising

I think of all of the candy companies in the world, Chupa Chups has probably used the idea of celebrity to sell their candy more than anyone else in the candy business. That got me thinking, is there a celebrity that if I saw them eating a particular food, I too would eat it because of their fame? I'd probably sample a treat if a celebrity chef that I knew and respected endorsed a particular treat. However, I can't think of any actor or singer that I would blindly follow their opinion when it comes to candy. Is there any celebrity you would trust?

Candy Art
at

Did you know that Salvador Dali had a hand in designing the Chupa Chups lollipop logo.
This is his version of the logo.
And this is the current version. It just goes to show the commercial art is truly as fine and fine art.

The idea that someone might make candy the perfect size for my action figures gives me the biggest smile you could possible imagine. It's strange because you'd think that I would be disappointed with the idea of smaller sized candy, but sometimes I really think I like it more than the regular size.

Chupa Chups Logo
at
10:53 AM
I just read an article about a new campaign that the lollipop company Chupa Chups is putting on. What I learned from this article is the fact that Salvador Dali apparently designed the logo For Chupa Chups. I'm not sure to what capacity, is it based off something he did before or did he design it for the company directly, but that's pretty cool.

Lollipops That Look Like Cigarettes In China
at
4:01 PM
Chupa Chups has released a package of lollipops that's supposed to look like a package of cigarettes in order to try and convince smokers to quit and take up lollipop eating instead. Unfortunately many people are complaining that it influences kids to take up the bad habit. I have a difficult time believing that eating candy that looks like cigarettes really influences people to start smoking at all. In fact I'm convinced that what makes people want to smoke is cool kids, you know, the ones that smoke.

Often they dress them up and I found this little statue with a Chupa Chups bib on him/her. It’s kind of cute and kind of sad all at the same time.
