It's Time To Stuff My Face With Mango Teddy Marshmallows.

I'm not sure why I did this, other than the fact that there was a bag of Mango Teddy Marshmallows sitting in my candy stash and it seemed like something I'd do. As usual with these stuff them in your mouth challenges, it turned into a fairly bad idea about three quarters of the way through.

It's A Random Review... One That We Really Got Wrong.

Check back tomorrow (at www.candycritic.org) for the full written review, but right now you can check out my initial reaction to these cheese snacks. Often I assume certain things about snacks before I eat them, sometimes I'm wrong, this is one of those cases.

This Review Is Worth It For The Name Alone - Bon Bon Bum "JoJoJo"

I don't like to make a habit of picking out a candy for review on the name alone, but sometimes you just can't resist. I'm sure the name of this candy has some kind of meaning, but I certainly couldn't figure it out. I just remember walking into a grocery store, seeing a display with the word "bum" on it, and heading straight for it. I didn't really care what was being sold after that, I knew I had to try it.

A Strange Sock Candy Thing

I enjoy fun socks.  One of my favorite things to do is wear silly socks when I have to dress formally.  It's fun to know that although I'm all serious on the outside, inside (and on my feet) I'm still a weirdo.  I can't decide how I feel about these gumball machine socks.  Are they too much?  Could I get away with meeting the Queen of England while wearing these socks, and if I did meet her, would I tell her about my gumball machine socks?

Bad Candy Ideas? - Part 1 - Old Man Pubic Hair

Everyday this week I'm posting about one of the worst ideas in the candy world that I've ever come across.  Today I'm going to talk about facial hair.  More to the point, an old man's facial hair.  In my opinion, old man facial hair is probably not a good theme for any kind of candy whatsoever.  In this case the problem doesn't focus on the actual taste or texture of the candy, this is all about mind games.  The last thing you want to be thinking about when you eat white cotton candy is an old man's beard.  They look similar sure, but you don't have to draw attention to that fact.

In general, with the exception of some novelty joke candies, simulating human hair in candy seems like a bad idea.  You could make brown chocolate cotton candy, break it up into bits, and call it "Barber Shop Floor", and it probably wouldn't sell very well.  Or maybe it would sell really well, much like that chocolate bar sold in a babies diaper a few years back (that's just wrong).  Either way I don't think that this bag cotton candy really represents the holidays very well, I'd recommend just going for a pooping reindeer instead.

Classic/Creative Candy Advertising

I think this advertisement deserves the award for "the most unlikely to be actually shot on a ski hill".  While little clues like the cheesy background, and the strange way the snow is sticking to them, is a bit of a give-away.  I think the most convincing thing that tells me that they're not really on a ski hill is their form.  I haven't gone skiing in a few years, but I'm pretty sure I didn't look like this.  I find it pretty amazing that an art director at an advertising agency actually took this picture and said "this is what I believe represents winter".

I found this ad here.

Candy and Snack Related Super Bowl Commercials

This OREO commercial is pretty much the perfect example of everything I hate about many Superbowl commercials.  While the first few seconds is fun, people whisper arguing over which part of the OREO is better, it escalates into stupid remarkably fast.  While I'm not against escalating silliness, I am when it's nonsensical   For example, why does that one guy push the shelves over, and why don't the police show up with the fire department.  These, along with a few other details derail the whole escalating fight/debate over the subject of whether or not the cream or the cookie is the better part of the OREO.  There is also very little visuals of actual cookies, so it doesn't make me want to eat a cookie for any reason.  Finally, why is this even a debate, the cream is obviously the most important part of an OREO.

Classic/Creative Candy Advertising - Oh Henry Golf

What happened to the good old days when it was OK for a group of guys to get dressed up in silly outfits, stand in a dark room, eating Oh Henry! bars?

Airport Find - Giant Bars

One of my favorite things about traveling is checking out airports.  In particular I love checking out all of the unique treats and treat advertising that you can only find in airports.  On my recent trip to Brussels I took note of a few of the great candy displays and exclusive treats, and I'm going to post a new one every day this week.
I love a giant chocolate bar, even if it's not real.  The reality is if you did happen to make a bar this big it probably wouldn't have the shelf life to survive its consumption.  Basically what I'm trying to say is, there is a threshold for the enormity of a chocolate bar, or a chocolate bar can in fact be too big.  There is also an obsession with airport gift shops displaying these ridiculously huge chocolate bars.  The thing is, I love looking at these giant bar, taking funny pictures with them, and generally fantasizing about my attempt to consume them in one sitting.

Following M&Ms Characters is Like Following A Soap Opera

When I was a kid there was really only two M&Ms characters, the red guy and the yellow guy.  Soon more started to show up on the scene, including a green girl.  I'm cool with that, why not represent them all, and the funny little thing about the urban legend dealing with green M&Ms, very clever.  The thing is, now they seem to be having some kind of conflict every year.  They either get separated and have to find each other, or decide that they want to find out who's most popular.  Or now, it appears that they've decided to pursue solo careers as spokes candy.  I'm wondering when one of them is going to get shot and then come back from the dead only to reveal who was the real killer.

I Want To Eat Half As Much As I Do Right Now

What could I possibly do to cut down the amount of sweets I have, by half?  This is a question I get a lot, but few people ever really think about the most obvious solution.  Why not cut your candy in half and eat only one half at a time?

Sour Apple Candy Ad

Just like last week I decided to find this weeks ad by simply typing a random candy related word into the Vintage Ad Browser's search tool.  This weeks word was sour.  I have to say I had to comb through a few non-candy ads to find a good sour candy ad.  It's strange how whenever a candy company wants to promote something that is really sour, they often use a really ridiculous situation to do it.  Why is extreme flavour attached to corny random gags in candy commercials?

Ad found on Vintage Ad Browser.

Younger Audiences Don't Want Free Candy

According to a study young folks are not interested in samples anymore when it come to new foods.  Instead, apparently, they're more interested in learning about the company and in having personal engagement with the company.  All I can say about this is "What the heck!"  Seriously free samples, that means you get stuff... free.  What's wrong with this new generation, I wish they'd just wake up and see the world in some kind of reality, and I wish they'd get off my lawn!

Learn About Peanut Butter Jelly Time

For peanut butter lovers month I was going to post the meme "Peanut Butter Jelly Time".  However I thought to be less annoying and maybe even slightly educational I'd post Rocket Booms informative documentary about the origins of this most annoying meme.

Speaking of Tim Horton's

I just read this article about a Tim Horton's drive-thru lineup that become way out of control. A town in Quebec is blaming the Tim Horton's among other things for creating a huge traffic jam that blocks the street on a regular basis. The plan is to re-work some of the streets in order to stop the clogging traffic and give a little more room for drivers. Has anyone thought that maybe another Tim Horton's in the neighborhood to take on the extra customers might be more profitable, easier, and less silly?
