Ahhhhhhhhh, it’s chocolate!

Man sometimes it’s good to be grown up. I mean who’s gonna tell me not to go out and get a box of what could possibly be the best cereal in the world, eat it for breakfast lunch and dinner? Something about horror movies, chocolate, and marshmallows (or at least that’s what they call them).
I also love the fact that I can decorate my room with a scary poster, well maybe slightly startling… ok it’s pretty much not scary at all. Let’s examine the more terrifying aspects of this box.
Well there are bats on the box, that’s pretty scary. I mean who isn’t even a little freaked out by bats? After all some do actually suck blood, that’s pretty creepy.
The scissors could be really sharp. One could get a nasty cut, and that would expose some blood, and who knows maybe one of those bats may fly down and it only gets worse from there.
Fangs, that’s scary and… wait a minute Count Chocula doesn’t have fangs, he has buckteeth! This is pathetic, how is he supposed to instil chocolaty fear with buckteeth?

Up Up and a daaaaaaay!!

This week we take a look under the sea. Actually we take a look on the third shelf just on the right of the 7-11 near my house, because that’s where I found this little treasure. It really makes me wonder who does all the ordering for late night convenience stores, because they have some crazy candy sometimes and most of the employees that work there don’t really look like the type to order things like the Mother of Pearl. Maybe next time I’m in a 7-11 I’ll ask.

Yesterday

I forgot to tell you!

Yesterday was Fortune Cookie day as well as peanut day. I hope you didn’t miss out, I would have posted sooner but with two important events like that in one day I may have partied it up a little too hard.

Happy National Chocolate Milk Shake Day!

Today is national Chocolate Milk Shake day! I’m not really sure why you’d have this day so late in the year. I’ mean I’d rather have had one a couple of months ago. Maybe it’s some kind of scam brought on by the milk shake industry goons.
Either way if you’ve ever needed an excuse to get a chocolate milk shake I’m officially giving you one.

BOOOOOOOOOM!

People often ask me how I choose my treats to review on Candy Critic. Sometimes it’s the fact that it’s a classic treat. Other times it’s because the treat appears to be something that I just can’t pass up. In this particular case it was just what was written on the package. “Fruit Flavoured Explosion” it sounds painful and yummy all at the same time.

Update date days are back!

Yes I know I missed last weeks update day, yell sneer do what ever makes you feel better. But don’t worry because I’m back this week with a classic purely Canadian treat. I like having “Canadian” treats on Candy Critic, mainly because I’m Canadian. It really surprises me how many great candies us Canadian have all to our selves. I’m not sure how many of them are exported around the world, but if you get a chance to try one let me know how it goes for you.

Also (on a side note) I just thought I’d let you know that I’m getting some serious spam right now so if you need to contact me or anybody at Candy Critic the absolute best way is to use the e-mail form.

It’s white like my milk!

It would appear that Oreo wasn’t happy enough with just giving us the double stuff. Which in my mind is a scam because we all know they just reduced the cream in their regular cookies so “double stuff” was just old regular.

Now a day they offer a huge selection of types of Oreos these golden Oreos being one of the newest.

Allison told me that they had already came out with these a while ago and they where known as Ops Oreos (or something like that). I have to be honest I worry that cookie companies are going the way of many of the chocolate bar companies with variations of old treats instead of new ones. It’s not interesting and to me a little boring.

“No prescription required”

So I was out and about at around lunchtime and I came across a new DR Pepper. Not that I really thought they ever needed to expand into gimmicks, I always took them as a bit of a gimmicky soda already.
The good news is it’s not that bad. The bad news is that it’s because it barely taste any different than regular Dr Pepper. Maybe it has a slight tinge of cream soda mixed in but you really have to concentrate to taste it.

From happy to sad in one suck

How do you feel about yourself? Feeling peppy like you have the world at your fingertips?
Well the folks at Embitermints want to knock you down a peg or two. That or help you knock another one of those jolly too happy jerks down a few pegs. They just sent me a couple of packs of these fine and cruel mints that I’ll be reviewing soon.

I’ll vote for it!

I love the fact that the Ontario government is endorsing the eating chocolate and chips. It’s about time they dropped the old healthy living stuff.

Hmmm…

As you may have been able to tell, Candy Critic has been a little slow on the updates lately, but that will soon come to an end. We’re trying to streamline all the info on the site so it’s a little easier to follow. First of all we’re getting rid of the news section on the site and just going to report things here on the blog. Also we’re going to use the blog to announce all updates and up coming ideas we have, in fact we’re pretty much going to switch over everything to the blog except the actual reviews. We may still do an article or two if we really feel it’s needed but for the most part for all our extra content (stuff other than review) the blog will be the place to go. We also plan on giving you guys more of what this site is all about… Reviews!

Thanks for your patients.

Friday Video (Late Saturday night)

I’ve been craving sugar fun cereals all this week; I’d kill for a bowl of something covered in sugar, with marshmallows.

Green with Shreky

I know I’m a bit behind but I just found this crazy special edition Shrek Snickers bar. I’ve seen the special M&Ms that are supposed to be ogre sized, but a green Snickers, that sounds awesome and horrible all at the same time.

Although the package seems to indicate that the green is super florescent, it’s actually more of a grass green.

I was also disappointed that the caramel wasn’t green, just the nougat. The good news was the Snickers itself was still the same.

Down… So what would be the opposite of date?

Sometimes it’s nice to be Canadian… Actually to be honest I have yet to find anything that I really don’t like about being Canadian. I’m not saying I’m better than anybody, or that Canada is better than any place else in the world, I’m just happy to be from here. Wow, was that ever a “Canadian way” to say that I’m proud of my country. Well to further the pride I have, this months review is of the “Oh Canada” Oh Henry bar. So stand tall those from the north, we finally have a treat with Canadian pride!
I’d also like to apologise but I swear that some time this week I’ll be adding the sugar free category to Candy Critic. I’ve just been kind of sick and really busy. I’ll let you all know when it’s up here on the BLOG though.

Video a day late

I was racking my brain on what kind of video to post, then I figured I’d try and find a commercial for a treat I like but I’ve never seen any commercial for it ever. Whatchamacallit was the first search and the best find ever. I wonder if Abbott and Costello took a few spins in their graves?

Cool flavours

These have to be some Ice Cream flavours that even the most extreme of Ice cream companies won’t even try. Sure they may load up their ice cream treats with gummies, 4 different chocolates and caramel but do you want to know why most ice cream companies won’t bring these flavours back?
Mainly because most of them where kind of gross.

The Music of Candy

Whenever I go to a restaurant with a jukebox I always pick a song with a candy theme and dump like 10 bucks in. Then I promptly pay my bill and leave.

Update Day!

Well this week is a pretty simple update day, mostly because I’ve been spending the last week getting over my vacation. What kind of world is it where your vacation needs a vacation to get over it? This weeks review is simple and fun, you can’t ever claim that a pink cotton candy flavoured dinosaur isn’t.

Simpsons Treats

Ok so I’ve been a little lazy. I just got around to really investigating the whole Simpsons movie madness at 7 11. Although I did really enjoy my pink Simpsons donut I have to say that I was disappointed by the lack of Simpsons related candy. A gummy Venus de milo would have really made my day.

Cold Stone

It really looks like this adventures theme is ice cream. Everywhere I go I see it smell it, and lucky enough eat it.
This particular stop was at a place called Cold Stone. I think I may have seen one of these places before, or at least one similar. What they do is take your ice cream and your choice of toppings and mix them up using a spatula on what would appear to be a really cold stone counter. So it’s not just a clever name.

Imagine that, a cow?

While on my little adventure on the east coast I came across this crazy place that is decorated with all kinds of cows, retro stuff, and filled to the brim with candy and ice cream.
Seeing as I have a slight fear of cows I have to admit I wasn’t totally comfortable, but none the less it was a fun time for all.

What’s with that St Stephen Place?

Just as we where about to cross the border into the US from Canada we came across this little town on the boarder. It’s called St Stephen and it claims to be Canada’s “Chocolate Town”.
So how can a town make such a claim? Well, a family known as the Ganongs decided to start a little candy company there.

And that candy company is now a big candy company and they’re really great.

You can go inside the original shop and see some cool artefacts from Ganongs past.

Or you can just go get some candy instead.
Can you guess what I did?

Lots-o-Sticky cones

Man that’s a lot of those sticky cone things.

Pie of the Sea

Hmmmm, nothing says yummy like a slice of Seaweed Pie… Wait a minute, Seaweed pie; is this some kind of joke?

Nope not in PEI they have all kinds of crazy ideas using stuff from the ocean. Actually to be honest this particular treat was a bit of a disappointment.

I’m not saying the pie wasn’t yummy, because it was pretty good.

I was just disappointed because the “sea weed” part of the pie was just an extract used as a vegetarian substitute for gelatine. Tear, another adventure disappointing in style, but ok in flavour.

Giant Ice Cream

In every trip often a theme seems to come out of it, sometimes it’s hot days, other times it’s pretty wild life. Well on my trip to the East Coast my theme was giant Ice Cream Cones.

To marvel at them is something few men have been lucky enough to do.

Because we all know a trip filled with giant ice cream cones is a trip not soon forgotten.

CC

The best in Canada?

If you ask anybody from PEI what the best Ice Cream in the world is, they’d all say the same thing, cows. And they’ll say it often, loud, and pretty much never let you live a quite life ever again until you’ve tried it and liked it. They are nice people, just really proud.
So when in PEI I made sure I went to this great place of Ice Creamy dreams. Readers Digest said it’s the best in Canada and I can’t disagree, it’s pretty good. My only problem is I want more, and by that I mean the portions are too small.
CC

Can’t do the Can-can

I wonder how they fire people in PEI? I mean that don’t allow people to have drinks in cans, only bottles, so do people get bottled? I don’t care either way, nothing is sexier than a bottle anyways, I mean look at those curves.

CC
So you may have noticed an absence in updates and Blogs, well that’s about to end. You see I’ve been on an epic journey filled with candy adventures, and that means I’m going to be going a little nuts with the Blogs as well as a few other Candy Critic things associated with this adventure. Having said that enjoy this weeks review, a fun Hershey bar with bits of another Hershey bar inside.
Also this week we’ve got a cool little article that will help you with your bulk food purchasing. The bulk shovel is a powerful tool my friend, use it wisely.
