It's Not Chirstmas, It's National Hot Chocolate Day

I was really debating about making this new review a Christmas review, then I remembered that National Hot Chocolate Day was coming and it seemed the perfect fit. I used to celebrate many of the "national" days that were associated with candy and junk food, but frankly it was just too much. Now I celebrate if I feel like I can. I also feel like as long as it's cold outside and I have the means, any day can be Hot Chocolate Day.

Check out this fun review for a hot chocolate themed treat.

Also make sure to follow me on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to find out what kind of Hot Chocolate I'm drinking at any given moment.

If you follow me on Patreon I might even send you some hot chocolate.

Some Zoo Fun On The Road

In this episode of Junk Fud on the Road, Allison and Chris talk about all the zoos they've ever visited. It's a surprising number of zoos in some fairly exotic locations.

Is It Lazy To Be Mysterious?

One of the trends in candy that almost always frustrates me is the idea of a mystery flavour. While I'm sure there are many marketing reasons that candy companies use this trend, my brain keeps telling me that they're only being lazy. I feel like someone created a weird flavour that no one at the company could figure out. Rather then think creatively and decide on a flavour, I feel like these candy companies just label the candy as a "mystery" flavour. In some cases they label it as a mystery and then let other people guess what flavour it is. Then I imagine that they pick the most popular choice of what people thought it tasted like and just call it by that flavour from then on. I don't know for sure that this has ever been the case, but it's what I imagine.

Check out our latest mysterious candy review right now.

Make sure to check out my Facebook, Instagram and Twitter feed and let me know what flavour you think this is trying to be.

I Make Marshmallows Awesome!

Marshmallows have always been on my list of treats that I don't always love. I think as an ingredient they can be good, but on their own I just don't get the appeal. Today I decided to try and figure out how I can change that and make marshmallows awesome. Spoilers, I figured it out.

Subtle Flavours Should Be Cherished

So as you may or may not know, there is a possibility that I have Covid right now (I don't know for sure as in Canada the only people that can be tested are vulnerable people and those working with vulnerable people). At this point my symptoms are mild and in general I'm still able to do almost everything I did before, except go outside. Today's candy review did remind me that some people lose their sense of taste. This makes me a little nervous because treats like these marshmallows require not only a basic sense of taste, but the ability to taste subtle flavours. I have set up a few fail safes if I was to ever get sick or lose my sense of taste (temporarily). I actually have many candy reviews done in advance that I can post at any time. While we live in crazy times, I always want to make sure you can read a new candy review each week.

Check out this subtly flavoured treat that I'm thankful that I'm able to taste.

Is Peanut Butter Overused?

This week's new candy review is of the Snickers "Creamy Peanut Butter". As far as I know there has already been another Snickers with peanut butter, and in fact I would argue that just about every single major candy company has produced at least one version of their treat with peanut butter. While I do enjoy peanut butter with chocolate, I feel like this ingredient is overused. More to the point, I feel like every candy companies figures that peanut butter will always work. This may be true, but judging by this review I think it's not. Peanut butter has a particular flavour and texture and it doesn't always work with everything, and even when it does "work" it has to be used properly. Peanut butter is not just an ingredient you can slap onto every single candy bar and guarantee a winner.

Find out why this week's featured candy doesn't work, even though it has peanut butter.

Circus Peanuts

The best thing about this shirt is that you can get it if you love Circus Peanuts, or if you hate them. Obviously if you love them then you can celebrate everything great about this old fashioned treat, but if you hate them then you can just be ironic.

In The Middle Of Winter

I always feel like there's a bit of a drought of candies or snacks dedicated to winter. Sure there are plenty of Christmas treats that you could technically say are themed to winter, but for some reason all of these winter themed treats seem to disappear right after the new year. I want to see snack and candy companies come up with treats dedicated to the month of January that aren't Valentine's Day themed. I want winter treats exclusive for winter that are not only available after the holiday season, but maybe even exclusive to after the holiday season. This week's review is the closest I could find, they're winter, but they're definitely not Christmas.

Check out this very Canadian very winter snack.

Also make sure to follow me on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter to find out how I'm going to keep my sweet spirits up for the rest of the winter.

Don't forget to pick up a set of Snack Facts, my micro comic all about snacks and candy too. It'll keep you busy while you stay out of the cold.
