I Thought A Lot About Today's Review - Life Savers "Black Currant Pastilles"

The reason I gave today's new candy review so much thought is that I will likely not be posting another review this week. For those that don't follow Candy Critic on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, you may not know that I post a second review every week on Thursdays. I do this as a bonus for those following on our social media, and to help keep my review backlog under control. This week however I will not be posting a review, and I can't really tell you why at this given moment.

When this week is over, I'm guessing you'll have a pretty good idea why I can't talk about it, but for now I've decided to leave the reason a little quiet. Needless to say that since I'm not posting a review later this week, I wanted to make sure that today's new candy review is a good one. I wanted to be sure that it was not only a good candy, but that it was a little interesting as well.

I think I achieved that.

Thinking About Wafers... And Other Things - Kagi "Classic"

Today's new review got me thinking about wafers. To most people wafers are just another form of flour and sugar that's often associated with cookies. To me, wafers present a conundrum in the candy world, a riddle that is sometimes solved, and often failed. Whenever I buy a wafer based candy bar, I feel like I'm taking a risk, and also about to think very deeply about what I'm about to eat.

Strangely, this overthinking of a wafer bar has also made me think about my future, both immediate and long term. As is regular here at candycritic.org, there are changes on the horizon. Some of these changes are in my control, others are not. I have no plans on stopping Candy Critic, but as is common, there are some changes coming.

I Sampled A Lot Of Japanese Cookies For This New Video

I'm not sure what inspired me to eat all of these Japanese cookies at once, it just seemed like the best way to try and sort out this bag of random cookies (and some jellies too). You can pretty draw your own conclusion at the end.

Playing With Your Candy - Creatables

There are a certain group of candies out there that are designed to be played with. Some pull if off really well, like the Japanese Kracie kits, while others just don't really work, like these Creatables. Reviewing these made me think that I should pull together a list of best and worst candies you should play with. The list would rate the candies by nothing more than where they fun to play with, I would ignore taste and texture entirely. So while this candy didn't review very well, it at least inspired a fun idea.

You can also follow us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to see us compile this list.

Chocolate Makes Me Think Of Home - Toffee & Nib "70% Cacao"

This week I've been thinking about Canada, the place where I was born and lived most of my life. This weekend I also pulled out my list of "classic candies I have not reviewed" and it made me think. First of all it reminded me that I haven't updated this blog with a new post about "Classic Candies I Haven't Reviewed And Why" lately. It also reminded me that I'm likely going to be going home fairly soon, and while its a little different than the home I left, I'm hoping that some of my creature comforts are still there, and I'm really looking forward to eating and Oh Henry bar, or a Vachon cake.

Japanese Candy All Week - Charge Pop "Lemon"

We're kicking off this week's candy review-a-thon with something a little sour, a little sweet, and strangely a little salty. The theme for this week's review-a-thon is Japanese treats, a subject we've done a few review-a-thons about in the past. I have to say that Japan is one of the countries that seems to have a limitless supply of candies to write about, so it's pretty likely that this won't be our last Japanese candy review-a-thon either.

Check out the first entry in our review-a-thon here.

Make sure to follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to keep up with all the entries in our review-a-thon this week.

You can also check out our Patreon page since we're previewing a new fun project we're just finishing up.
