Time To Hit The Road In Syracuse

This episode of Junk Fud on the Road was recorded right after our first exploration across the boarder to America since the Covid shutdown. It was great to have some American classics and to see all the fun things we'd missed before.

When Vegetables Collide

When I come across a snack like these Lay's cucumber potato chips, I wonder. I wonder if snack companies come up with their ideas on paper, or in the kitchen. I wonder if someone writes down all of the weird ideas they can think of when it comes to flavour combinations, or if a food professional taste tests millions of ideas only choosing their favourite. I feel like the creative team at companies like Lays might be made up of more writers than cooks. It's not that I didn't like these chips, it just doesn't seem like something a sane person would develop in a kitchen.

Check out why these chips are so weird by reading my latest review.

Tony's All Week

I feel like it's fair to dedicate an entire week to Tony's chocolate bars. For me in North America, they seem to have shot out of nowhere to become a really strong independent brand of candy bars. Since this appears to be a European thing, it was difficult for me to get my hands on one of these bars, but now that I've tried one (actually 3) I can see why the world is going bonkers over this bar. They're so great that I'm dedicating this week to reviewing all three of the bars that I have.

Make sure to follow me on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to keep up with all the Tony's reviews I have planned this week.

Don't forget to check out my Patreon too, it's full of bonus content and in some cases free stuff.

Strange Candy Commercial

This commercial is both strange and very heart warming... then it gets strange again.

That Corn Snack Makes Me Blue... Literally

In this episode of Chris, Why Would You Eat That?!! I eat a blue corn chip, only it's not made of blue corn. This chip is likely made of regular corn but for some reason the makers thought it would be a good idea to cover it with very unnatural looking blue dust.

Does Colour Matter?

This week's new review proves one thing to me, colour does matter. When I was a kid, I used to visit the Toronto Science Center on a fairly regular basis. One of the exhibits they had looked at sense and perception. In one case they would sell you a little plastic egg filled with gummy candies. The candies would come in two colours, one would be appropriately coloured to the flavour it was representing, the other would not. The one that was off coloured would always taste weird, and you'd have a hard time telling what flavour it was supposed to be. The gummy candy that match its flavour to the colour was easily identifiable. These Takis are proof that this theory works in the real world, and that corn chips should not be blue.

Check out the full review to find out exactly what blue corn chips taste like.

Very 80s

I keep remembering things in the 80s differently than many of the younger folks out there. Then I see this commercial and I realize how truly weird it was.

All In A Name?

It's weird, there's a certain line that you must cross in order to get me to buy a candy bar because of the name. I feel like that line is pretty far, but every so often I come across a treat like the Whozeewhatsit and I'm pretty much sold. To qualify as a bar worth trying for your name alone, you must be creative, and just being a different language doesn't count most of the time. There have been a few exceptions when a treat has had a name that made me giggle because in English it meant something totally different than what it means in the native language where it's made. So for the most part I don't buy candy for the name, unless you're creative enough to call your bar Whozeewhatsit.

Check out the full Whozeewhatsit review right here.

Just 7-Up?

I'm not sure if the creators of this commercial were just drinking 7-Up.
