A Little Pride In Your Ice Cream

This treat brings up an interesting debate that's been around for a few years. Is it positive for large brands to make a Pride version of their treats? On one side of the coin it's great that inclusivity is being celebrated, but on the other side of the coin one wonders if this is being used as a marketing ploy. Celebrations and holidays have been used to sell items for a very long time, but it seems like there are certain holidays and celebrations that are off limits. I don't really have an opinion on this particular treat, other than the fact that it's a new design and flavour combination that I've never seen or tasted before. While I endorse inclusivity in all its forms, I don't have an opinion on how others choose to celebrate Pride.

While I avoid a great deal of the politic, you can read my review and find out how I felt about the ice cream treat.

It's A New Chip Review, And It's Not Great - Lay’s Cooling Sensation "Melon Bingsu Flavor"

Today's new review is one that you'd think would be obvious. It's obvious that it shouldn't work, I mean it's melon flavoured, menthol potato chips. Sometimes I get snacks like this and I'm surprised that it does actually work, this was not one of those times. I ate these chips, and they were pretty gross. They're so gross that I couldn't finish the entire bag (it was a small bag as well). I didn't throw them out though, I have some friends coming over this weekend for a round of Pandemic, and they're going to get to sample the worst chips ever made.

As an added bonus, this Thursday I'll be posting another review of another "cooling sensation" flavour of Lay's potato chips. I have a little more hope that these won't be nearly as gross, but I'm not totally confident.

It's Getting Warmer, And We're Thinking About Ice Cream - Icecream Cake "With Cookie & Cream"

Technically the weather isn't getting warmer where I am, it's always warm where I am right now. However, around the Northern Hemisphere it's getting warmer, and that means that ice cream season is upon many of us. I remember the joy of getting the first ice cream cone of the season, and knowing that many more were to follow. I also remember the first time it dawned on me that I could actually get ice cream in the winter too, but that's a different story.

I figured that it would be a good idea to post an ice cream review to kick off the ice cream season. Fortunately it turns out that this ice cream treat is one of the most unique ice cream treats that I've had in a while.

Candy In The Media - My Name Is Klondike

This commercial asks the age old question, are you that bad a parent that  you would even consider naming your kid after an ice cream treat?

It's The Last Review of 2018, And We Have A Bonus To Go With It - Strawberry Milk Candy

It's been a pretty strange year in the junk food and candy world. Straws became public enemy number 1, and food became more political than ever. We got to travel a whole lot, and exspirience treats from places like Finland, Kenya, and Japan (just to name a few). We also started to build up our YouTube channel, something we hope to continue to do in the coming years. It's been a fun road in 2018 and we thought we'd end it with a candy we picked up in Japan that might seem simple, but has a really great package.

Click here to read our last review of 2018.

The package is so great that we made a little video showing off how cool it was.

Make sure to follow us on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook to keep up with our adventures in 2019.

Thanks for following us and reading our reviews all throughout the year. We're going to keep going into 2019 and hopefully for many years to come.

We're On The Road, And We Still Have A New Review - Cool Air

I decided that this would make the perfect new review to symbolize the fact that all of you in the north are starting to get a little chilly. When I was a kid I used to believe that it was a good idea to chew a cool gum in order to keep warm. It's a silly idea, but mentally it got me through a few cold winter nights ice skating with my friends (holy cow was that ever a Canadian thing  to say).

Click here to find out what we thought of this chilly gum.

Hey everybody, we're on the road... although if you read the title of this blog  you'd know that already. We're in Cambodia road tripping it around Battambang and Siem Reap. It seems that I'm not able to embed videos using my tablet, so that means if you want to see our latest episode of Chris's Monday Morning BreakfastThoughts, you'll have to click here.

If you want to see more of our trip, make sure to follow us on Twitter and Facebook as we'll be posting pictures of any cool snacks and food we find.

And remember to follow us on YouTube for videos that we might not post here.

Candy In The Media

So you don't have an ice cream maker, but you really want soft serve ice cream.  All you need is some basic ingredients you can find in just about any stocked kitchen... oh yeah, some dry ice as well.  I personally have never bought dry ice before, but from what I understand it's becoming more and more common.  I think I may have to try and get myself a chunk because there are so many cool things you can make with it.

Candy In The Media

When I was a little kid, I was convinced that Orville Redenbacher was a fictional character, and the guy on TV was just an actor.  I learned later that this was in fact the man, and that he started his popcorn empire when he was only 12 years old.  This man changed the way we snack on foods, and he rocked a bow tie like no one else could.

Friday Candy Video

The Twix ad campaign from the 1980s is probably one of the most memorable series of candy commercial for me.  The last 15 seconds of this commercial is one of the best examples of candy glamour shots.  And although slightly dated, this commercial actually made eating a certain candy bar kind of cool.

A Cool Candy Thing

Of all of the "Cool Candy Things" I've mentioned on this site, I think this is the one I'd most like to really own.  Sure the Snoopy Snow Cone Machine is neat, but who wouldn't want the ability to make their own Slurpee's whenever they wanted.  Not to mention, you could make any flavour of Slurpee you wanted, even strange ones like a gravy flavour Slurpee.  Santa, if you're reading this... hint hint.

Polar Bear Gummies Remind Me Of Home

I know it's a cliche to say that polar bears remind me of home, but they do.  Having said that I've never actually seen a polar bear in the wild, and let me assure you that most of Canada does not actually have polar bears wandering.  It's just that polar bears are an important part of our culture, so you see a lot of merchandise and art depicting these awesome bears.  So when I get a little treat that's icy cool and shaped like a polar bear, I get a little nostalgic.

Thanks to sugarfina.com for giving me a little warm feeling with these cool bears.

Friday's Candy Video - The Coolest Pinata Destruction Ever

This clip of Matt Cain (a major league pitcher) and the gang from Myth Busters, throwing baseballs with amazing accuracy is something to watch, but the finally with a pinata makes it Candy Critic approved.
