Memorable Japanese Kit Kats I've Reviewed - Part 1 - Two Japanese Classic Flavours In One

Last week we looked at some of the fun varieties of a classic Japanese treat, Pocky. This week we're looking at a classic British treat that took the world by storm, and then Japan ramped it up even further, the Kit Kat bar. It all started several years ago when Japan released a special green tea variety. Since then they've been breaking the boundaries of what we expect the Kit Kat bar to be. So every day this week we're posting a look back at some of the more interesting Japanese Kit Kat bars that we've reviewed. We're still in Japan, and hopefully we're finding even more.

For our first entry this week, I thought I would start with a Kit Kat bar that pretty much sums up the  flavours of Japanese candy. Japan has some pretty creative treats of their own, but they also excel at taking already established treats and giving them a Japanese spin. Two of the more common flavours to use in this kind of adaptation is match green tea and sweet red bean paste.

In the  past there have been various matcha and red bean Kit Kat bars, but this was the first time I'd ever seen them both together. It's a strange flavour combination, but it really does taste Japanese.

This New Candy Review Is A Little Fishy - Taiyaki Ice

I have to admit, today's new candy review is a little sel... fish. The reason I wanted to review an ice cream treat is because I'm in a place that's very hot, and I need to cool down. I know that many of you reading this are in the throws of a cold winter, and I feel for you, but sometimes you just have to do something for yourself.

Most Notable Candy We Ate In 2017 - Yawa Mochi Ice

This entry isn't  as much about the treat itself, but one of the ingredients of the treat. For years I've been eating red bean paste, a common sweet ingredient in Japanese snacks. Each time I'd eaten it, I'd always try really hard to like it. I don't have a complete displeasure with red bean paste, but I'd never really liked it. That was until I ate this Yawa Mochi Ice, and I discovered that I not only like red bean paste in ice cream, I love it. It's become such a thing that I'm going to likely keep an eye open for more ice cream treats with red bean paste in the future.

And make sure to follow us on Twitter and Facebook to read about other flavours we're trying to love, like licorice and fake banana.

Part 4 Of Our Asian Ice Cream Review-A-Thon Looks Pretty Fancy

There are really two categories of ice cream treats. Simple cheap looking treats, and fancy expensive looking treats. This clearly falls into a fancy looking treat because the package depicts it as something you might see served at a fancy restaurant. The key to the look of this fancy treat is the fact that the package depicts it with the lid slightly askew. I always love the fact that when you get a fancy dessert in a restaurant that's contained in some kind of edible shell, the chef often chooses to open it slightly for you. It's as if they're not confident that you know how to open up an edible shell yourself.

It's Not All Cinco De Mayo Today

Let us not forget about other cultures as well. For today in Japan is "Children's Day" and that means mochi filled with sweet bean paste. It's good times for all.

Bean there drank that.

While in Japan I was “lucky” enough to sample Shiso Pepsi (basil Pepsi) and I thought how or why could they top that. Well apparently they have, Red Bean Pepsi is here people, and it’s time to be afraid.
