Candy Crossover Success

I feel like the candy crossover is something that's often tried, but doesn't always succeed. In order for a candy crossover to work it has to do one (or both) of two things. It either has to be well thought out and blend together so well that you don't really know where each treat ends or begins. The other option is to be so weird that you end up with a novelty candy that people may not actually enjoy eating, but they're curious enough to give it a try. This Jelly Belly gum falls squarely into the first, in fact I'm kind of surprised that no one has made Jelly Belly gum before.

Candy In the Media - Starbust Weirdness

I remember the berries and cream Starburt candies, I don't remember this commercial. I probably blocked it out of my memory.

Candy News

Canadians busted... smuggling Kinder Eggs.

I've always wanted to try a cronut, but these spam donuts don't seem so appealing.

Huffington Post has a list of amazing ice cream sandwich ideas perfect for keeping you cool this summer.

There's a new Mars store opened at the Paris airport.  I always love the way Mars themes these stores, and I'll be sure to snap a few pictures if I find myself in Paris again.

Here are 4 really good tips for making a great ice cream sandwich, using toast instead of a cookie is still up for debate.

Tired of all of the berries available from mother nature, why not make up your own?

There's a new kind of chocolate in town, and it's called Blond.

Police in Thailand nab chocolate thief, apparently there's not much else going on.

I think of all the categories of fruits that people make into candies, berries really are the best.  They really lend themselves well to the candy world, they're bright colours, sweet and sometimes sour, and they're already candy sized.  People often call fruit "nature's candy", but I think this goes doubly true for berries.  I love berries so much, that I can honestly say if presented with candy, or a bowl of fresh raspberries, I would have a hard time making the choice.

Mike and Ike Review-a-Thon - Part 1

While posting today's review this morning, I realized that there's a good chunk of the world that has no idea what a Mike and Ike is.  Since this week is going to be full of Mike and Ike reviews, I thought I would share the description given on the official Mike and Ike's website "chewy flavored candies with real fruit juice".  That description is fine, if you have a handful of them right in front of you, however if you don't it might be a little vague.  The best way I can describe them is to say that they're like elongated jelly beans, with more fruity flavour choices, and no black ones.  I hope that helps you out a little, and better yet, I hope you get the chance to try them some day.

Put It On a Stick And Review It

I'm not sure if this is a trend that I've just discovered, or if it's a new up and coming trend, but lollipops seem to really be making a comeback.  Best of all, it appears that handcrafted lollipops are really making a comeback, and the big boys in the candy industry should be keeping an eye open.  I'm hoping that this trend starts to grow, and we see more and more candy companies coming up with really creative and smart lollipop flavour combinations.  I've been lucky enough to sample quite a few lately, and I'm eager to sample even more.  If you make handcrafted lollipops, and you think you have some creative flavours, let me know (like the folks at www.thischarmingcandy.com did) because I'd love to help promote your candy cause.

Scratchy Throat? Check Out This New Review

"Wild Berry"... There's an implication that a berry grown in the wild is better than a berry grown on a farm.  When I was a kid, we used to pick wild raspberries behind a cottage I used to regularly visit.  They tasted great, but I'm not sure if they tasted better than berries grown on a farm.  I'm not comparing wild berries to berries bought at a grocery store in this case either.  Grocery store berries are not necessarily fresh and are often stored in cold environments.  This changes the berries and lowers the quality.  When I talk about farmed berries, I'm talking about the berries one eats when you're supposed to be picking your own berries at a "you pick them" farm.
