Candy News

We've decided to change a few things here at Candy Critic, and one of the things we're changing is how we deliver candy news.  It used to be that we would have a daily post all about what's new in candy news.  We're changing things up a little bit, instead we're going to post a weekly round up, every Friday, of the top news stories we've come across   For the regular news you'll have to follow us on Twitter where we'll post the news as we get it every day.

Since we haven't posted any news over the last few weeks, here's a few stories to get us started from the last few weeks:

So which cup are you going to drink that hot chocolate out of, does it matter?  According to science it does.

While you're deciding which cup to use for that hot chocolate, why not read "The Surprisingly Manly History of Hot Cocoa"

What are the latest trends in potato chip flavours?  I'm saddened by the lack of sweet in this list.

I'm told that homemade marshmallows are a completely different beast then the ones you get in supermarkets, here's some instruction on how to make some yourself.

Necco is going to start to let you write your own love messages on their hearts, I'm betting obscene messages will not be allowed.

I know that dark chocolate is supposed to be good for you, but now science is saying that white chocolate might also be good for you, the message I'm getting is chocolate is good for you.

Blue is the new red, according to science many of the chemicals used to make things blue might not be healthy to eat.  Now that makes me feel blue.

Want to change the way you look at Corn Flakes?  Then read this article "Corn Flakes Were Invented as Part of an Anti-Masturbation Crusade"

Here are six foods that can make you smarter, and yes, one of them is chocolate.

Little Debbie is making her own Twinkies, so are they better than the ones Hostess made?

Werther's is looking to update their image as an old mans candy, I suggest adding racing stripes.

Dove Parties Are Like Tupperware Parties Only Better

I just finished reading an interesting article about a woman who helps people love chocolate.  Sure she also helps people sell chocolate too, but frankly I have no problem with chocolate sales people.  It's really interesting to see how people fall into the world of chocolate, and this woman has a story to tell.

New Years Resolutions Contest

Dove is offering a prize to you, yes you.  All you have to do is tell them that you've stuck to your New Years resolutions... Wait a minute, New Years was less than a month ago.  Is it really a prize winning situation if you can stick to something for only one month.  Now I'm sure the prizes are spectacular (since Dove chocolate is pretty awesome) but I wonder how deserving people are for only keeping it up for such a short time.  I say the winner should be someone who has kept up their New Years resolution from 1995 till now.  That's a feat worth talking about.

A Nice Story About Dove Chocolates

Recently Dove chocolates started to put messages of hope from breast cancer survivors as a breast cancer awareness campaign.  Just reading any of the messages can be a nice little addition to anybodies day.   However when the message has relevance to your life, it's almost like an inspiring fortune cookie.  That's just what happened to one Kentucky woman when she read a message in her chocolates.

Two Packs Look the Same

Hershey's is suing Mars because the package for their new peanut butter Dove treats apparently looks very similar to that of the Reese's line of treats.  I'd like to say bad things about this lawsuit but frankly I think if a package looks similar to another people will get confused, particularly if the package has a similar (in this case peanut butter) product inside.  I myself have bought treats in the past and thought that they where associated with a particular brand only to find that it was a case of mistaken wrappers.  I haven't actually seen these packages so I can't say for sure if it's true.

What Do Dove Chocolates and Tupperware Have In Common?

Apparently a lot more than I thought. I just discovered something called Dove Chocolate Discoveries where people can buy kits to become Dove sales people. The idea is that you can throw parties and sell people on Dove products. Personally I’d rather go to a chocolate party than a plastic container party any day. I’d sign up myself but I really don’t have that many friends, and the ones I do expect me to give them candy for free.
