Candy in the Media

Cheesecake is probably the cake with the most regret.  You want to eat 13 slices in one sitting, but you know after the second you'll only feel regret.

Candy In The Media

People always ask me how I can review candy, and not look like Jaba the Hut.  The answer is simple, I don't eat like this girl.  The idea of eating 3kg of ramen noodles makes my stomach ache and gives me the sweats.  The sport of competitive eating is really taking off, and while it amazes me, it's not something I've ever aspired to do.

This Week In Candy

It's a bit of a slow week here at Candy Critic, or at the very least on the surface.  I'm working on my book in full force this week, and I'm researching a few articles for the future as well.  I've also been asked to play food consultant over the next week, that basically means I've been asked to eat and criticize particular meals for someone, it's a good gig. So it's not like I'm not doing anything, just nothing that'll be showing up on the blog this week.  We will however have our regular posts coming up, Wednesday's "Candy Thing" and Friday's "Candy In The Media", so there's still lots to check out.

This week on Snack Facts, our Instagram feed, we're looking at one of the most popular thing to put on bread, peanut butter.  Make sure to follow along so you can learn a fun new peanut butter fact every day this week. If you don't use Instagram, that's OK too, you can follow Snack Facts on our Twitter feed and our Facebook page as well.

Our new review this week is a rather strange one.  It's the first time ever that I've tasted a cheese/chocolate candy, and it pretty much works out as well as you might imagine.  Click here to read the new review, and learn why some treats are just a bad idea.

A Cool Candy Thing

I've popped popcorn using many different tools in my day, the microwave, fancy machines, and my favorite, stove top in a pot.  But I've never popped popcorn over and open fire.  I have great visions of sitting around the campfire with some friends, singing songs, telling ghost stories, and then enjoying a nice bowl of smokey hot popcorn.  While this is how I picture it, I'm sure the reality involves a lot more rain, and bugs.  So I may never get to try this popper out, but it's nice to dream a little.

Friday Candy Video

I love cake, and I love watching things in reverse, but I think watching a man eat an entire wedding cake (mostly with his hands) in reverse is a little gross.  About halfway through this video, the constant craving I have for cake (I know you have one too) went away for a few seconds.

Yakitori Dessert

Most people don’t think of Yakitori as a type of food that would have a desert. After all it’s just pretty much meat and vegetable on a stick. Sometimes you make it yourself and other times it’s made by vendors. Well the other night we went out for Yakitori at a make it yourself place and we found on the menu a neat desert.
Pretty much the idea is to toast your bread on the Yakitori stove top in you table, and then you get some toppings (butter, whipped cream, and Canadian Maple Syrup) and slather it onto your toast.

It may seem simple and kind of silly to pay for but man was it yummy. It’s also a great social event. I think we may have to invest in a Yakitori stove for home.

Best Worst Meal Ever

Just got back from a road trip through Toronto down to the US, where I ate like any good American should. I should mention that I'm Canadian so really I over did it a lot.The winner of the worst meal that I consumed on the whole trip had to be Cracker Barrel. I enjoyed their chicken and cheddar skillet. It's a layer of hash browns covered with chicken and broccoli, covered with that cheap cheese sauce they use in theatre nachos, covers with broken Ritz crackers, covered with more crapy cheese. It was wonderful and the only way that you can guarantee to break any diet that you might be on.
