The biggest problem when you wear this shirt is that every time you look down you crave a doughnut.

Ugly Or Delicious

The other day I was handed what I can only describe as the best looking milkshake I've ever been presented.  Chocolate ice cream, caramel sauce dripped through, and buttery cookie crumbs on top.  If you have any love of sweet treats you must be salivating a little just looking at this thing, right?

The thing is, as I got further through this decadent milkshake the orderly layers started to merge and the cookie started turning into a mush.  I looked down the barrel of my glass and saw this.  Now this is not by any standards a pretty sight, but, it still makes me hungry.  It really begs the question, visually, what makes us hungry?  What are the visual cues that make us want to munch down any kind of treat?  This milkshake went from being a beautifully layered delight to a muddy looking mess, but I still wanted to eat it.  Gummy bears look like plastic teddy bears, but I want to eat them.  If you put a gelatinous ball of pork fat in front of me I'll gag, put a gelatinous ball of cherry flavoured sugar and I'll eat it up.  I don't get it.

Movie About Candy Making

I just read an article in the Washington Post about a documentary dealing with great candy chefs.  It sounds like something I'd have to watch with lots of snacks in front of me.  The thing is, whenever I watch shows/movies about food, two things happen to me.  First of all I get really creative in the kitchen for the next few days, secondly I get hungry while watching.  More importantly I get hungry for the food they're making.  I guess I'm just really susceptible to food on TV.

Great Food Photo Blog

Yesterday when I posted that GIF of the cookies baking I decided to dig into the source a little bit and I came across a blog that has one of the greatest collections of food photos that I've ever seen.  It's inspiring, beautiful and it make my mouth water so much.

The Science Of Being Hungry

It's really fascinating to find out how the mind works when it comes to eating. Think about it, your mind has to deal with not only filling up with nutrition but also with these crazy cravings that really have nothing to do with making you any healthier.

They make a bar that stops hunger, then they give away money to stop hunger. When it comes to battling hunger the folks at Snickers are pretty much on top of things.
