My Purple Candy Rule

I have a weird guideline/rule about candy, when in doubt, always go for purple. If I'm presented with colour options and I'm not really sure which to choose, I pick purple. If I'm in a store and I see a deep purple treat, I'll probably buy it. While I don't hunt out purple treats, I always feel like purple is a good bet. It's not that purple treats are always the best, but they're always either grape (which is a fine basic flavour) or something pretty interesting (like this new review, ube). So my unsure answer if presented a shelf full of treats, is go for the purple one. I should also note that this doesn't work for package colour, the treat itself must be purple.

Check out my latest purple review.

Sweet, It's a Potato

I feel like the sweet potato is one of the most underused ingredients in snacks, at least in North America. In parts of Asia the sweet potato is so common that you might even see it more often than regular potatoes. I think the thing that makes it unique is the fact that it really works well in both savory and sweet applications. The flavour is on the sweet side, but not so sweet that it doesn't work with a bit of salt. I've seen sweet potatoes as jams, cookie and chocolate fillings, coated in sugar, and as we see in today's new review, chips.

Check out my latest sweet potato snack review.

A Purple Package With a Fun Story

While posting this review I learned something really interesting about this candy. Apparently the name of this candy can be directly translated into the words "African violet". My Ukrainian isn't that great, but I'm going to assume that this is no accident. If you look at the package you can clearly see that there is some visual similarities. I'm not sure if I can give a candy a better review because of this, but I really think it's neat, and worth mentioning here at least.

Check out the full review right now.

Pixelated Gummy Bear Shirts All Week - Part Purple

I'm pretty sure that purple is the rarest colour of gummy bear out there.  I don't think Haribo gummy bears come in purple, nor do many of the average store brands.  I'm pretty sure the only way to get purple gummy bears is with some of the high end gummy bear makers.  I can assure you that I have eaten one, and it's a nice rare treat.

Spreads - Yam Jam

I just finished an art piece for bewarethecheese.com's fine art gallery "Senses". For this piece I had to photograph, and eventually eat more than 40 different spreads.  I've decided to post a little something about each spread that I sampled.
I'm not a huge fan of yams, the red ones, the yellow ones, or even the purple ones.  I was also not that sure that yams would make for a great jam, or what one spreads yam jam onto.  The lady at the store where I bought it assured me that you can spread yam jam on bread.  I also thought that the colour of this stuff was well worth exploring.  As it turns out, it's pretty tasty, and the colour does not disappoint at all.

Crazy Flavoured Cotton Candy

I recently got tweeted this photograph of what is described to me as "violet flavored cotton candy".  I can't say that I'm sure I'd love the taste of it, but I'd love to try it.

Thanks folks at "A Secret Forest Patisserie"
