A Look Back At My Reviews In 2022

For the first time ever, I've decided to compile some statistics about all of the candy reviews that I posted in 2022. All together I managed to post 71 new reviews on candycritic.org. That's not bad considering my goal is to make sure that I post at least one new review a week. It's very good when one considers that there was an entire month when I could not post any new reviews due to technical problems.

I've already posted a video with a list of the highest rated and lowest rated candies I've reviewed this year, but below are some interesting bonus statistics about all the candy I discovered in 2022:

The brand I reviewed most: Hershey's with 8 reviews. It makes sense since we managed to visit the US twice this year, including one fairly long road trip.

Place I got my candy this year: More than half of the candies I reviewed were from North America. This is likely because I was back in Canada for most of the year, as well as the above mentioned visits to the US.

Most common type of candy I reviewed: Candy bars were the most common type of candy I reviewed this year with 19 candy bar reviews added.

I ate mostly Kit Kat bars this year: I reviewed 5 Kit Kat bars this year, a big part of that was the discovery of a new Asian grocery store in Ottawa that had a decent selection of Japanese Kit Kat bars.

I feel like it was a great year for candy, and with my recent relocation to South East Asia and the fact that travel is starting to open up again, I really feel like 2023 is going to be an interesting year for candy reviews on candycritic.org. Let me know if there are any treats you'd like to see featured for review, even if you're the company that makes them.

Always keep up with all my new reviews by following me on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter.

This Week In Candy

Last week I wrote a review, this review is not going to be posted on candycritic.org for about 9 months, I wrote my Halloween review.  It just happened to be one of those situations where I was given a treat that fits the Halloween theme, so I wanted to take advantage.  Strangely enough, a few days after writing this review, I went out shopping and came across a great Christmas candy that was on sale.  I bought it, and that means I'll be writing my Christmas review later this week as well.

This morning I mentioned that Candy Critic now has 861 candy reviews online.  It's not a particularly celebratory number, but we're pretty proud that the number went so high.

Later this week I'll be posting a piece I wrote on something I call the "Tic Tac syndrome".  I think this is something that many people can relate to, so make sure to check back later.  I'm also working on a few secret projects that I hope to be able to announce in the future.

Today I Post My 861st Review

One of the things that I always mean to keep track of, but almost never do, is how many reviews I've posted.  I've been doing this site for some time now, and when it started I had no kind of regular schedule for posting reviews.  I also occasionally do review-a-thons, and other special review days, so unfortunately it's almost impossible to figure out how long the site has been up based on the number of reviews, or vise-versa.  But just knowing that I've tasted more than 800 different candies, and written about them, is a pretty big deal to me.  It got me thinking, I wonder what my 1000th review will be, and I wonder if I'll even know that it's happening.

Candy Art - Counting Kids Book

I haven't had a chance to read this book all about counting and candy, however based on the preview I've received it really can't go wrong.
Who doesn't like counting?  It helps you sleep, it can make you rich, and it helps you know how much candy you've bought at the local bulk candy store.
Counting with candy just adds more fun to an already useful process.
I also happen to love the bright colours.

Ice Cream By Numbers

This is the first ever treat that I've reviewed that starts with the number 4.  I'm wondering if 4 is an unlucky or unworthy number in the candy world.  They say in entertainment, 3 is the best number, and there are lots of treats that feature the number 3.  5 is also a fairly popular number to feature on candy, but 4 really seems to be a rare find.
