I Could Watch Candy Being Made All Day Long

The folks at FB Washburn Candy, who have been making candy longer than anyone else in America, sent me a great video showing how they make their candy. I could seriously watch people making candy all day long. Some of the machines they use are like something out of a science fiction movie. Maybe when things clear up in the world they'll invite me down to come see it in person.

It's A New Episode Of Chris, Why Would You Eat That?!!

Some people tell me that Chris,Why Would You Eat That?!! is all about finding foods from far off lands and eating them on camera. The thing is, not all of the strange food in the world is found outside of North America. We North Americans also have our fair share of very strange treats, and I'm not going to leave us out.  When I saw these Root Beer Pop Tarts, I knew it was the perfect example.

We've got a whole bunch of new episodes of Chris, Why Would You Eat That?!! lined up, make sure to follow us on Twitter and Facebook to help us choose new crazy treats to try.

This Week In Candy

It's officially started, Christmas. Here at Candy Critic we're all ready for the holiday season. It all starts with putting up a few lights, and spirals out of control from there. This year we picked up some candy canes to decorate the living room but it was actually a second thought. I think that's because no one seems to eat them. Every year as I'm taking down the Christmas decorations I always find that almost every candy cane is still hung up where I left it.

I'm not really sure why this happens either. Is it that people just don't like a cool candy cane? Maybe my guests are too polite and feel that taking a candy cane ruins my Christmas decorating? It could be that I feed my friends too many other sweet treats so they can't bear anything else. All I know is that when I take down the decorations, I have to come up with ways to use up candy canes.

This week on Candy Critic we're continuing our countdown to Christmas. We're also going to post a new episode of Junk Fud News looking back on all of the junk food news for the month of November. We may also start to post some random Christmas gift ideas on the blog here, for the sweet tooth on your Christmas list. Make sure to follow us on Twitter or Facebook to keep up with all the Christmas stuff we're posting during the holidays.

This week's new review came from the wonderful folks at Ice Chips Candy. They sent us a bunch of boxes of Ice Chips to try, and I instantly gravitated to the Root Beer Float. I was particularly interested in seeing how they used the latest trendy sweetener, Xylithol. Candy News

It's Girl Scout cookie season again, here's a few facts that you may not have known about these iconic cookies.

Did you know that there are schools specifically for people that want to study the art of making candy, I think I might enroll in the Bonnie Gordon College of Confectionary Arts.

Ever wonder how they make Cheetos? After reading this,  I wondered how they were invented and who came up with this idea.

Popcorn and the movies really go hand in hand, and there's a really interesting history that would make a great movie.

Did you know that Coca-Cola produced a special cola for Gen X?  The man was attempting to stick it back on us.

"Kids These Days (Are Smoking Fun-Dip And Smarties)", I wish this headline wasn't so literal.

You would be amazed at the science behind roasting cocoa beans, every detail, even wind velocity, is taken into account.

Here's a great collection of silly chip storage options, some are strange but clever, others are just strange.

I don't normally like to post recipes on this site, but I have a craving for root beer, and some of these sound really tasty.

Do you really want your gum to help increase the health of your bones?

I'm a big fan of home made food atrocities, including this giant Gushers candy made of Fruit Roll Ups, Fruit by the Food, and regular sized Gushers.

If you want to keep up with all of the daily candy news that we come across as it happens, follow us on Twitter.
