For The Love of Cinnamon

I'm not sure if my tastes have changed, or if I'm just finally brave enough in my older age to admit this, but I really like cinnamon. I might even go so far as to say that there are times where I crave cinnamon over chocolate. This is particularly true when someone's talking about baked treats. Don't get me wrong, there has to be some sugar mixed with that cinnamon, and it shouldn't be very spicy either. I've never really understood the full appeal of spicy cinnamon treats to be honest.

Check out my latest cinnamon filled review.

Snow Soon? Snowball Right Now

Both Allison and I agree that it feels like the first snowfall is coming soon. While I don't actually mind the snow, I don't like a lot of the other things that come with winter. Cold nights and dark days are kind of depressing if you ask me. Snow on the other hand is what makes winter awesome. These cakes may celebrate the most wonderful part of winter, but I'm not sure if they really give me the same joy.

5 Awesome Candy Themed Funko Pops - Part 4 - Twinkie The Kid

We still have a few more characters to look at in our series about candy themed Funko Pops.

Do people know who Twinkie the Kid is? Even when I was a kid Twinkie the Kid wasn't a huge deal for us. That could have been because I lived in Canada, or it could be my age. Later in life I found out more about this awesome cowboy and I gained a hearty respect for him. He was an amazing mascot for one of the most popular baked treats in the world. I wonder if they'll ever bring him back?

It's Time For An Apple Candy Review... To Keep The Doctor Away?

Seeing as I'm presently in a place that's really warm, I don't really feel like summer is over. This means that I didn't really feel the fall.  That was until today. Today I was online looking at pictures of friends, and children of friends going out trick-or-treating, and I saw all of the amazing fall colours all around them. This made me nostalgic for fall, and instantly made me think of apples. That's why this review is perfect... except for the fact that it kind of sucked. I guess I'll have to look around for more fall themed candy to review, at least before Christmas starts up.

We're also going to be posting some great new facts on our Instagram feed called Snack Facts.

Candy News

According to the latest information the cocoa crops on the Ivory Coast are looking good, that means we might see some cheaper chocolate next year.

Later this summer I'm heading home to Toronto for a little while, fortunately my friend Peter found this awesome list of places to get ice cream there.

This video of Hostess snacks being made makes my mouth water.

If you thought that banning peanuts from schools and workplaces was a silly idea, you'd be wrong.

Here's 20 interesting facts about chocolate, for example, did you know that Napoleon loved chocolate?

If you lick the spoon when you're making a cake, can you get salmonella poisoning?

Candy News

This is your brain... This is your brain on chocolate... See it works so much better.

So what is a candy cane, where did they come from?  Here's all the information you're going to need.

This years trendy DIY sweet treat for the holidays?  Gingerbread.  Not that it wasn't popular before, but these year it seems to be exploding.  Here's some proof, here even more, and even more.

It turns out that the new folks at Hostess are looking to expand into the global market, that means that all you folks in Europe, Asia, and Australia won't have to pay premium prices for Twinkies anymore.

Nutella Bar opens in Chicago, on an unrelated note, anybody out there have a spare room in Chicago that I could move into?

I'm not sure how I feel about the trend to mix alcoholic drinks and sweet treats together, no matter how silly or strange the combination might be.  Sometimes it works naturally, other times...

Candy News

How do you feel when you eat a Kit Kat bar?  Maybe the best way to find out is to scan your brain.

Who knew that the Disney theme parks had so many choices when it came to popcorn?

Do you smell chocolate?  Do you have an urge to spend money?  According to science there's a link.

Apparently those gummy vitamins you see at the drug store, may not really be that great for you.

Here's a great explanation into the differences between ice cream, gelato, sorbet, and many other cool treats.

If chocolate really works that well as a medicine, I may find myself getting sicker more often.

I'm a huge fan of TCHO, and in particular I love the way that they do business.

Dear people at Hostess, please tell me that this article is completely untrue and that the new Twinkies are exactly the same, or maybe even better.

Is the chocolate/bacon/taco really a good idea?  You bet it is.

Candy News

Isn't sugar, salt, and fat enough for you people, now you want everything caffeinated too?

Has ice cream changed since you were a kid, I think in some ways it's better.

Aeration seems like a way for candy companies to give you less chocolate for the same price, but some claim it's actually what people want.

So are smaller portions good for you, or are they making you eat more junk food?

However, if you have an urge to eat too many little treats, there's a simple way to stop that urge, and it can take as little as 30 seconds.

Here's a great wrap up on the return of Hostess snacks, and who's making them now.

The idea of horse meat grosses a lot of people out, how about bugs?

So you want to avoid buying the big brands of candy, and just deal with the nice local companies?  Well it's a lot harder than you think.

They want to take the fat out of chocolate and replace it with juice, this just seems like a bad idea.

Mars has already released its list of Valentine's Day treats for next year, and you guessed it, lots of varieties of M&Ms.

Did you know that if you spread all of the Nutella used over the course of a year, you could cover 1000 soccer fields?  Here's a few more Nutella facts you might not know.

This Week In Candy

On this week's "This Week in Candy" I will not only talk about some plans we have for Candy Critic in the near future, but I will also post the review that I should have posted yesterday.  I was out of town and I couldn't get to my updatable stuff so this weeks review is up, and it's a great creative treat I recommend that you try.

Click here to read the review.

I've been thinking about writing more about the kinds of places where I buy my candy.  Not just the shops that I like, but also the kinds of shops that I like and even the countries I like to shop in.  There are some cities and towns that have excellent candy selection, some are really surprising considering their population and geographical location.  I'll also write about what to look for in a good candy shop, and what to avoid in a crappy one.  I'm also thinking that I might ask you, our loyal readers, to contribute your favorite candy shop experiences (and nightmares) as well.  I think I'll start this in earnest in the New Year, so for now I'm going to start collecting ideas.

Last, but not least, I'm sure you've all heard that Hostess went out of business last week.  Well I've got some information to share later this week that might make some of you very happy.

Thursday's Candy Links

Have you ever smelt a candy store, it smells pretty good doesn't it, scientific studies are looking into why they smell so good.

When I first read the headline "Hostess Might Liquidate" I got really excited, turns out it doesn't mean what I thought it meant.

New Pepsi might actually help you loose weight, I don't think I like this trend.
