This Week In Candy

Our friends at Fla-Ver sent us a whole bunch of candies, but I can't decide which ones I want to review.  Today I posted the first review (popcorn flavoured), but I think I'm going to do at least one more. Instead of me choosing which "Fla-Ver" to review, I'm going to leave it up to you guys. At least you guys on Periscope.  Over the next few days I'm going to go onto Periscope (at random times) and ask you guys which candy I should review.  You can vote by leaving me a comment on Periscope, and the "Fla-Ver" with the most comments will be the one I review.  This is going to be technically our first installments of our new Periscope series called "VS".

With the new Star Wars movie coming out later in December, it got me thinking about Star Wars candy.  With the inspiration of a few friends, I've come up with a few Star Wars treats that I'd like to see.  We'll be posting more about that later this week, along with a couple of doodles.  Candy makers take note.

This week I'm also going to record a few episodes of our new podcast Junk Fud, coming out in January.  I've learned that having a few under your belt is a good idea. I'm still trying to work out all of the details, so if you have any suggestions for a podcast topic, let me know.  I'm also looking for guests for the podcast as well, if you think you'd make a good guest, send me an e-mail.

This week on Snack Facts, our Instagram feed, we're looking at a classic holiday treat, the Terry's Chocolate Orange.  Every day this week we'll post a fun fact about this spherical chocolate treat.  As a bonus fact for you, Terry's Chocolate Orange is going to be our official Christmas candy review this year on candycritic.org.  Make sure to check our Instagram feed every day, if you don't use Instagram, that's OK too, you can follow Snack Facts on our Twitter feed and Facebook page as well.

As you've read above, we picked one of the 5 flavours of Fla-Ver candies to review.  Today we're posting the popcorn flavoured candy review.  It was pretty fascinating, and it made me think a bit about other popcorn flavoured treats I've tried in the past as well.  Click here to read this first Fla-Ver candy review.

This Week In Candy

I'm feeling pretty ill today. Last week we had to live in "temporary" accommodations as our house was being work on.  Then we get home for about 2 days, and I get food poisoning.  It's one of those instances where there is no doubt in my mind that it's food poisoning.  The good news about having food poisoning is that it makes you think about what you eat.  I've been thinking about my diet, the world's diet, just food in general over the last few days.  For the most part it's been random thinking with little real substance, however I did come up with one question that I can't figure out.  Why don't we eat more acorns?

This week at candycritic.org we're continuing all kinds of projects.  My plans to put together podcasts has been more planning than executing, and I've found it difficult to organize.  So I've decided to try to record a few solo shows this week to see how it goes.  I've got two ideas I want to work on, so if all goes well I should have a show or two to post in the next week.  We're also still working out the bugs of our Periscope show called "VS".  Link up with us on Periscope by looking for "candycritic" to help us compare some classic treats.

This week on Snack Facts, our Instagram feed, we're looking at cereal. Some of you may argue that cereal is not really a snack, but I'm not feeling well and it seems to be the only thing I can eat right now.  So check out our feed and learn something new about the crunchy breakfast treat every day.  If you're not on Instagram, don't worry, you can also follow Snack Facts on our Twitter feed and Facebook page as well.

This week's review is proof positive that good candy companies can't always work well together.  Click here to read the review that disapointed me.

This Week In Candy

Well that didn't work the way I'd hope it would...  This week candycritic.org is running a little slow.  Almost as if we were on vacation, but we're not.  This week we will not have regular postings of Snack Facts, our Instagram feed (however we will likely have a few random facts go up similarly to when we're on vacation), and we will not have a new review.  We also won't have a new Candy Thing posted on the blog tomorrow either.  You may also have noticed that This Week In Candy is a day late.  This is all because we had to abandon our regular digs for a few days. As it turns out we had a horrible moisture and mold problem, so we had to leave while construction workers work on our house.  They tell us that we'll be back by next week, but bets are being taken that we wont be back for two weeks.  So we apologies for the lack of content this week, but we'll surely make it up to...

And this is how.  This week we're officially starting  off our new Periscope show.  Follow us using our handle  "candycritic", and throughout the week we're going to be launching our new Periscope show called "VS".  Each episode we'll pit one snack VS another.  It could be chips VS cheesies, Flake bar VS Kit Kat, or even Red Kool Aid VS Purple Kool Aid.  When you see us online, watch the cast and vote for your favorite and vote as often as you like.  I'm sure nothing could possibly go wrong with this idea, considering we've never actually used Periscope before.

So once again, sorry about the lack of content this week.  We had no idea that we would be cut off, and we couldn't really prepare for this as we wanted to.  Hopefully next week things will be back to normal, although if it is, I'll be down 20 bucks.

This Week In Candy

We're back from Sri Lanka, and we've got lots of great things to share with you guys.  Later this week I'll be posting a blog with highlights of this trip, I'll talk about what kind of snacking country Sri Lanka is and what you shouldn't miss if you go yourself.  Next week we're going to have a review-a-thon featuring some of the treats we picked up on this adventure, some are salty, and some are sweet.  While I had a great time on this trip, it's good to be home.

Are you on Periscope?  We're working on a new regular show for Periscope that we hope to have ready to go soon.  We're in the early planning fazes of the show right now, but we'll most likely post some preview material on this blog as well as on Twitter and Facebook.  We'll also Periscope a few of the preperations as well. We're also going to Periscope during the recording sessions for some of the new episodes of the Junk Fud podcast.

This week on Snack Facts, our Instagram feed, we're looking at lollipops. Learn all you can about candy on a stick.  All you have to do is follow us here, on Instagram to have a lollipop fact sent to you every day this week, and more Snack facts in the future.  If you don't use Instagram, don't worry, you can follow Snack Facts on our Facebook page and Twitter feed as well.

This week's new review is a classic British treat that tickles your tongue in just the right way.  This is also one of the few British treats that I never really had much contact with as a child.  Living in Canada we got a pretty good mix of American and British treats, but for some reason Sherbet Pips never really made it into my life.  I'm not sure if it was me, or if Sherbet Pips were just not that popular in my neck of the woods.  Click here to learn all about this great British sweet.
