This Week In Candy

We had a bit of a technical problem last week, only this time the technical problem had nothing to do with the internet, or my computer. Last week's technical problem had to do with my molar.  Last week, after biting into a loaf of cinnamon raisin bread (you will have seen it on our Facebook and Twitter feeds) it felt like something went wrong in my mouth.  After a few bites I noticed that something appeared to be digging into my tong. I assumed that I had something stuck between my teeth, and felt around a little with my finger.  I quickly realized that the thing digging into my tong was attached to my tooth.

As it turns out I broke a filling... On cinnamon raisin bread.  I managed to struggle with it that night, but I didn't sleep very well.  The next day I called my dentist and made an emergency appointment.  As it turns out I managed to destroy one of my old fillings (as a note I should remind everybody that I haven't had a new cavity in several years). My dentist fixed me up, but unfortunately I happen to require a lot of Novocaine to freeze my mouth, so I was out of commission for a couple of days.  In fact it's been 5 days since the procedure and my jaw still hurts.

So this means three things, first of all I missed one of the reviews in our Icelandic candy review-a-thon, I made up for it yesterday though.  Secondly I was not able to finish writing my recipe for the Ottawa Snowbank ice cream treat I created.  I should be making up for that later this week.  Finally, I may, or may not be posting the latest episode of Junk Fud On The Road this week.  It may have to wait till next week as we couldn't record it last week.  At times like this I'm glad that I write many of my reviews well in advance.

Speaking of which, this week's review was one I wrote earlier in the summer, but I was surprised it took me that long.  Take 5 is a bar that's been around for a while, but I've just never been that keen to review it.  After eating it, I'm not that keen on getting it again either. This Week In Candy

Here we are, late again. I guess things aren't exactly all back to normal, in fact things here are still really chaotic. But that doesn't mean you have to miss out, it means we have to sleep less.  That aside, this week we're really gearing up for Halloween.  This year we're going to have an epic Halloween Candy Review-a-Thon, and it's starting next week.  That means for two weeks you're going to have a new review every day, maybe even two reviews some days.  On our recent visit to the US we came across a lot of cool Halloween treats, and rather than just pick one cool one out, we got them all.

Later this week we're also going to be posting a quick article all about our trip to the US.  We'll talk about the drive down, and our stay at the happiest place on earth, Disney World.  We might even throw in a bonus review. Later this month we'll also be posting a new episode of Junk Fud On The Road with Allison and Chris talking about all of the fun treats they came across. Speaking of Junk Fud, we'll have the new episode of Junk Fud News going up today or tomorrow.

Later today we'll be posting episode 2 of In Hindsight, a video series we've put together where I look back at some of the old reviews I've written and see if they still hold up (you can see the first episode here). This week I look at the Kit Kat bar, my favorite bar in the world, and the only review to get perfect marks. Right now we've got to get back to working on all of these Halloween reviews, then maybe in November we can get a little sleep.

This Week In Candy... Yup, It's a Little Late.

Seriously, I just can't seem to get back on track after my epic adventures.  We just got back from an awesome drive across the USA to Florida (Disney World) and then back to Canada.  I'm a little tired, and falling behind on everything, including posting this blog, and posting the new review.  But if you're reading this than obviously I have things back on track... at least enough to post this.

So now that I'm back home, what's going on here at Candy Critic?  We'll it's already been posted, but a new article all about things that many people think are American, but are actually not, has gone online.  I'm not saying that the USA hasn't come up with some amazing junk food items (after all I had my first real Philly Cheese Steak on this trip and it was amazing), but sometimes Americans appropriate things that they really don't deserve credit for.  Later tonight we'll also be releasing the first in a 4 part video series called In Hindsight were I look back at old candy reviews and see if they still stand up.  We'll also have our regular segments of A Candy Thing and Candy In The Media coming later this week.

Next week I hope to have a written account of our trip to Disney and all the cool snacks we came across, we'll also have an episode of Junk Fud On The Road with Allison on that very subject. Speaking of Junk Fud, Junk Fud News is coming back this week... at some point I hope.  Snack Facts on the other hand won't be back until next week as we're just trying to organize things here as well as get ready for Halloween.

Now that we're back home, we are back with a new review. This one was one we picked up on the road, unfortunately it wasn't great.  I'm sure one of the dozens of other treats we picked up will be great, but  not this one. Find out why by clicking here and reading our Yoo-Hoo Candy review.

This Week In Candy

Well that didn't work the way I'd hope it would...  This week candycritic.org is running a little slow.  Almost as if we were on vacation, but we're not.  This week we will not have regular postings of Snack Facts, our Instagram feed (however we will likely have a few random facts go up similarly to when we're on vacation), and we will not have a new review.  We also won't have a new Candy Thing posted on the blog tomorrow either.  You may also have noticed that This Week In Candy is a day late.  This is all because we had to abandon our regular digs for a few days. As it turns out we had a horrible moisture and mold problem, so we had to leave while construction workers work on our house.  They tell us that we'll be back by next week, but bets are being taken that we wont be back for two weeks.  So we apologies for the lack of content this week, but we'll surely make it up to...

And this is how.  This week we're officially starting  off our new Periscope show.  Follow us using our handle  "candycritic", and throughout the week we're going to be launching our new Periscope show called "VS".  Each episode we'll pit one snack VS another.  It could be chips VS cheesies, Flake bar VS Kit Kat, or even Red Kool Aid VS Purple Kool Aid.  When you see us online, watch the cast and vote for your favorite and vote as often as you like.  I'm sure nothing could possibly go wrong with this idea, considering we've never actually used Periscope before.

So once again, sorry about the lack of content this week.  We had no idea that we would be cut off, and we couldn't really prepare for this as we wanted to.  Hopefully next week things will be back to normal, although if it is, I'll be down 20 bucks.

Oops. The Latest Greek Candy Review Is A Little Late Today

Normally I get up in the morning with all the good intentions in the world.  I have a calendar, and every Monday it has on the top "update candy critic".  I read it today, and never even gave the idea of actually updating the site a second thought.  Then, after watching a little internet television this afternoon, I thought I would see what was happening on the internets.  This Week in Candy posted well, but why no new review... oh yeah, I actually have to post it.  Well here it is, a little later than usual.

This Week In Candy

One thing I'll miss about Greek, is name day treats.  For those unfamiliar with the Greek traditions, in Greece name days are more important than birthdays.  Most Greek people are named after saints, and each saint has a day associated with them.  Churches are also named after saints and during their name day their is a big celebration.  The great thing is, on your name day instead of getting gifts, you bring treats for your co-worker.  This means that at your average Greek workplace, there are several days of the year where there will be free treats awaiting you.  Some saints are very popular names for children as well, so on some name days you'll get a whole mess of treats.

I'm running a little late this week with the updates, I was on a photo shoot all weekend and I'm just back trying to get all my ducks in a row.  Snack facts will be back up and running tomorrow on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.  We posted the new candy review a little late, but it's up and pretty fascinating if you ask me.

You might also see a few posts in the next week or so about our sister site bewarethecheese.com's art show coming up.  It's not only a chance to see some great art, but I'll be at the opening, and I will have candy.

A Little Late With Today's New Review

Normally I try to have these reviews up first thing on Monday morning, but this Monday morning didn't go exactly as planned.  It wasn't bad or anything, it just didn't go as planned.  Today's review is a little interesting, and I expect to get a few comments about the fact that many probably don't consider it a candy, I made my argument and you're welcome to disagree.

Yesterday Was Wednesday, Yet Today We're Posting Wednesday's Japanese Candy Review

Time got the better of me yesterday and I wasn't able to post our latest Japanese candy review.  Does that make today's review any worse?  I dare say it makes today's review even better.  After all anticipation can make things pretty awesome.  I'm convinced that many of you reading this blog don't really "anticipate" new reviews, so I'm probably just laying it on kind of thick.

In the past I've mentioned that I wasn't sure if I would continue the Wednesday Japanese Review.  I'm thinking of eventually changing it up, but until I have the perfect replacement idea, I think I'll just keep it going.

Yesterday Was National Chocolate Day

I'm sorry I missed the official celebration, however I know I ate a bunch of chocolate yesterday because our leftover chocolate offerings from Christmas have been greatly reduced.

I'm Up Late With a New Review

It may not appear that I'm up late, but that's only because the blog is on Eastern Standard time, however I live in Athens time, about 7 hours ahead.  I couldn't sleep because I realized that I had forgotten to update Candy Critic this week.  I was in bed, tossing and turning, until the guilt gave way to me getting up and posting a new review.  I also wanted to remind all you kind folks that it's still not to late to enter the Candy Critic/Yummy Earth holiday candy giveaway contest.  You can click here for more details about the contest.

Out Of The Loop

I'm a little out of the loop (the internet loop that is). My access to the web is limited for the next few days but I'm going to continue to try and update this blog as much as possible. I may do come catch up posts when things settle down a bit, and a post here and there when I get the time. Come Thursday night I should be all caught up and after that (for a little while at least) things should be back to normal.

I might be late with the update…

And by late I mean I might miss update day entirely this week. I’m never sure what to do when I’m not around on Sunday, particularly when it’s like today and I’m out on an adventure. I may update when I get home, I may update tomorrow, I may just wait for next week and let the current candy get another week. On a side note today is the anniversary of the day of the invention of Coke, so maybe I’ll have a bottle to celebrate.
