This Week In Candy

Happy Canadian Thanksgiving!  To me Canadian Thanksgiving is really the first official day of fall.  Fall in Canada is truly a beautiful time of year, the harvest is in, leaves are changing colour, and Tim Horton's is offering pumpkin everything (as pictured above with the pumpkin pie donut).

This week on the blog we're going to continue looking at some awesome Halloween costumes, as well as review another candy related tablet game.  On our Instagram feed "Snack Facts", all this week we're going tell you some fun facts about artificial flavours.  As always you can keep up with the latest candy news by following our Twitter feed, also this week we're going to start sharing the latest news on our Facebook page as well.

This week's review is a classic Canadian treat, the Caramilk Bar.  I figured since it's a Canadian holiday I might as well  go with a Canadian review.  Click here to read this week's review.

It's National Chocolate Fondue Day!!!

While I can't argue that chocolate fondue isn't great, I'm not 100% sure that it's my favorite fondue.  I think I might lean towards a caramel fondue instead.  Although that could just be the mood I'm in since it's a cooler time of year.  What I find is fruit that is available during colder seasons tend to work better with caramel fondue, while summer treats work better with chocolate fondue.

This Week In Candy

Candy News - It's interesting how seasons can really change the whole shape of the candy industry.  I'm not just talking about holidays either.  I'm talking about the differences in the types of things we snack on, depending on the season.  I find that the candy world really makes a shift from winter to spring with lots of new treats, and lots of new treat trends.  Easter is really the dividing line, but already candy companies are pouring out with all kinds of new treats to make our mouths water for this summer.

What's Happening At Candy Critic -  I think I can safely say that we at Candy Critic will have some very good news in the near future.  We're just in the middle of crossing some "t's" and dotting a few "i's".  Once everything settles and we're 100% sure, we'll let all of you know.  This upcoming week we're going to be posting all about our trip to Thessaloniki Greece, a place many call Greeks pastry capital.

Rant - Food poisoning... I just wanted to complain about food poisoning.  I wanted to complain about it because I've had several people around me get it.  I'm not really sure how they got it, but I can tell you that it's not much fun.  I'm surprised that the world is not better at preventing it either.  To be honest what I know about the science of food poisoning is almost nothing, but you'd think that it could be killed by science some how.  Really, we build bombs that can blow away the whole earth, lasers that can shoot through all of space, and large metal tubes that can fly through the air, but we can't get food safety up to scratch?

It's Maple Syrup Season!

Maple syrup season is one of my favorite times of the year.  If you've never tried good quality fresh maple syrup then frankly you haven't lived.  Although I prefer the stuff from Quebec or Eastern Ontario, the US has some pretty good stuff as well.

Slushy Slush

This time of year up here in Canada is when all the snow starts to melt and spring comes out to play. There’s still snow on the ground however it’s not as fluffy as it was when it fell. Instead it’s what the experts call granular and every time I walk through a patch of it I strangely crave a Slurpy from 7-11 (or any other brand for that matter). It’s really strange but a sign of spring for me is this strange urge to drink some slush.

Another update day this week.

It’s crazy I know but I have some update fever and I need a cure (I refuse to acknowledge any kind of cow bell). I’m just in the mood to go through reviews for the next little while, and with all of the treats I have around me lately it’s probably a good thing. Today’s review is the perfect treat for the season too. Who doesn’t love a good Jellybelly, and who doesn’t love a good themed candy. Maybe I’m just overly giddy because spring is in the air.
