Bad Candy Ideas? - Part 3 - Chocolate and Cheese

Everyday this week I'm posting about one of the worst ideas in the candy world that I've ever come across. Cheese generally works as a flavour with any salty treat, I can't say I've ever seen it fail on chips, pretzels, or nuts.  Cheese with chocolate on the other hand has yet to work even once.  I've tasted two cheese and chocolate treats and in both cases it failed miserably.  I'm not saying I don't want to ever see another cheese and chocolate treat again for the rest of my life.  I'm just going to go into each and every cheese and chocolate snack I try in the future with a little trepidation.

Fortunately until now I've never seen cheese paired with any other candy type, except ice cream.  I didn't have the chance to sample cheddar cheese ice cream, but that might work since they're both milky.  I imagine that cheese flavoured rock candy, or cheese flavoured gum probably wouldn't work that well.  Could cheese in fact be most sweet candies Kryptonite?  Is there any sweet/cheesy combination that would work?

Crackers and Chocolate

The greatest treats I ever find are the ones that are made up of unlikely combinations, but they taste great.  In fact that's pretty much a guarantee if you want high marks on candycritic.org.  If I taste something that I've never tried before, that's pretty good, however if I taste something that I can't imagine working (and it does), that's spectacular.  This week's review is one of those things I had never thought of, and I wasn't 100% sure it would work.

8 Days Of UK Treats - Day 6

There are two things I found in abundance in Scotland and England, tea and sweet treats.  Strangely I never once found tea flavoured sweet treats.  Instead the UK seems to focus on sweet treats that go well with tea.  For them crossing the line and actually blending the two together seems like a no go zone.  Even the treats from today's review might have worked well with tea flavours, but it never seems to happen.  Actually, come to think of it, I did buy a bag of Sticky Toffee Pudding tea in Glasgow.  So maybe you can go one direction, but not the other.

It's National Caramel Day!!!

Caramel is the best sweet accompaniment to chocolate ever.  It's not the most creative thing to mix with chocolate, but it almost always works.  The only reason chocolate and caramel wouldn't work together would be if either, or both, were of a really low quality.  I would even say that if you had a slightly cheap chocolate, you could probably rescue it with a nice caramel.  While chocolate is the standard caramel partner, the "new" and really tasty caramel combination has to be caramel and sea salt.

It's National Chocolate Caramel Day!!!

This is probably the most classic of candy combinations, but is it overused?  I think it might be used improperly, but really I can't get enough of chocolate and caramel together.  The problem I find with this combination is the quality of many of the ingredients.  So many times have I sampled chocolate and caramel together and discovered that one or both of the ingredients are cheaply made and gross.  If you want to impress with this simple combination, quality is the key.
