Different Names For The Same Cookie

I'm sure you've come across the great debate "is it called a cookie or a biscuit" before, but have you ever considered the word cracker as well. You might be arguing that a cracker can't be put into the category because it's savory. I argue that there are many cultures that have sweet/sugar crackers. Now you might think that's crazy, but then I argue "graham crackers". This then begs the question, can you have a savory cookie too?

This Week In Candy... Sort of.

Well my weekend didn't go as planned.  It appears that as a gift for the Victoria Day holiday this year I got food poisoning. And not just a sore tummy,  full on everything doesn't want to stay in my body food poisoning. So that's why everything is a little late this week.  Just because I'm writing this, don't let that send you the wrong message. I'm still extremely sick, over the last few days I've eaten a grand total of 12 crackers, a bowl of yogurt, and 2 bananas. I've decided to take on the "BRAT" school of dietary recovery and so for the next little while it'll be bananas, rice, apple sauce, and toast (although I may go for crackers instead of toast).

So this week is going to be a week of recovery and rest. But fortunately for you we'll still have a few posts that I've previously written going online later this week.  I won't be posting a new review, mostly because I don't want to associate any candy with this very bad week, food wise.

Snack Facts, our Instagram feed will also continue as usual, and this week's theme will be on crackers. Why's that?  Well they're the only food that I can eat regularly right now, so I don't want to push it.  Check our Instagram feed everyday this week (except Monday because I really couldn't do it on Monday) for a fun filled fact about the food that's probably keeping me alive right now.  If you don't have Instagram you can also follow Snack Facts on our Facebook page and our Twitter feed as well.

Crackers and Chocolate

The greatest treats I ever find are the ones that are made up of unlikely combinations, but they taste great.  In fact that's pretty much a guarantee if you want high marks on candycritic.org.  If I taste something that I've never tried before, that's pretty good, however if I taste something that I can't imagine working (and it does), that's spectacular.  This week's review is one of those things I had never thought of, and I wasn't 100% sure it would work.

Ritz Bits Sandwiches S'mores

When I first set eyes on this box of Ritz bits sandwiches "S'mores", I was fairly grossed out.  I think it had something to do with the idea of eating a marshmallow and chocolate cream on a cheese cracker.  After thinking about it a bit, I figured that maybe the savory sweet combination might work.  then I read the package and realized that the crackers were in fact graham flavoured and not cheese.

Each cookie is filled with a white and brown cream to represent the marshmallow and chocolate.  I have to say that the chocolate tasted fine, but the marshmallow really had no flavour at all.  It was fairly disapointing. I would have thought they could have given the cream a toasted marshmallow flavour, and that would have worked really well with the chocolate.  Even better would be to have put a toasted marshmallow flavour with little chunks of real chocolate.

Fortunately the yummy graham cracker outside and tasty chocolate filling really worked well together.  I wouldn't call these "s'mores", but I would call them tasty.

Are Free Samples Really a "Trend"?

I love free samples, in fact the number 1 reason I keep working on this site is the free samples, it sure as heck isn't the money it generates.  The two packages above are some free rusk cracker things I received while taking a walk around the Acropolis in Athens.  I don't review crackers or bread, but I'm sure as heck happy to get free samples.  I'm also fairly certain that I would not have tried these crunchy toast snacks had they not been given to me.  That basically means there is no way I would have ever even considered buying this product without the free sample.

Having said all of that, in the food industry there is a great deal of talk about if consumers do or do not react well to samples.  Really?.. Why in the world would people not react well to samples?  Here's some free _______, are you happy?  Taking away the free candy samples I get for this site, I have to say that samples are one of the driving forces behind me buying any new products.  If you give me something to try, and it's good, I will most likely buy it again in the future.  I'm convinced that the experts that say samples don't work, area people selling crappy products.  Sure you're putting yourself out there giving product away, but if you're not putting out something good, then you should be out of business, case closed.

Fancy Dancy Crackers

I got a box of crackers the other day and I was really surprised at how reasonably priced really fancy crackers can be.  I was also surprised at how cheap really fancy crackers can be.  In fact I was most suprised at how not fancy, fancy crackers can be.

The reason I thought these where fancy crackers is because of the serving suggestion on the box.

It recommends putting all kinds really high class things on these crackers, like caviar and smoked salmon. Who would have imagined that they're not really that high class at all and just kind of cheap.  I guess I learned a valuable cracker lesson today.

What's Inside Your Christmas Cracker?

Has there ever been a time when Christmas Crackers had candy in them?  As long as I've ever known Christmas crackers contain one paper crown, one cheap toy, and one loud bang.  However I get the idea that in the past they may have contained more, maybe even sweet treats.  Am I wrong about this?

Monkeys and Tigers Loop-d-loop

After a fun day of adventuring through Japan nothing’s better than a box of animal crackers to solve you hunger and entertainment needs.

According to the package however the ducks are a little more formal than one might think. Just when you want to relax and take it easy they ducks have to bring in formalities.

But it would appear that the package duck is the only one with the issue. Once inside the duck crackers are just as laid back as you would hope. But the fun didn’t end with the ducks.I learned while eating this box of crackers that I did not know how to spell Rhinoceros.

And that the people who make these crackers really don’t know what a squirrel looks like.
