I can't tell you how many times this song got stuck in my head when I was a kid... and now that I watched this video again, it's back. I also found out that a friend of mine took dancing lessons from one of the people in this commercial. That blew my mind.

Candy In The Media - Melting At Christmas

This Christmas commercial for Hershey's may seem harmless, but I think it's super weird. The weirdness surrounds the choice of  song. First of all "I'll Stop The World And Melt With You" is not a Christmas song, so that's a little weird.  The downright disturbing part of this commercial is the fact that it's sung by people made of chocolate. It's implying that these chocolate people are happy to melt (or die) for me on Christmas.  That's a pretty grim message if you as me.

Whenever I travel I seem to come across an inordinate amount of Polish television channels, I'm not sure why this is.  However, I'm always delighted with the kinds of commercials they have on these channels.  I think I find them more entertaining because I don't speak the language and therefore have no idea what's going on. Recently I've starting seeing this commercial on fairly regularly basis and each time I see it I giggle out loud.  I'm not sure why I love this commercial, only because there's so much to love.

Man this is a depressing song.  I've learned two things about Dolly Parton listening to this song.  First of all she really gets sad around Christmas time, I mean she's really not that happy at all.  Secondly, I get the feeling that like many people, Dolly Parton does not like hard Christmas candy.  I wonder if she had the same experience as I did.  When I was a kid my mom would put out hard candy at Christmas and most of it wouldn't be touched, then it would sit in the bowl for months, forgotten. Eventually I'd be desperate enough to try and eat some but by then it would have hardened into a solid lump. I'd try and break pieces off, and I'd inevitably cut myself on the hard candy scaring my hands and my interest in Christmas candy forever.

I've always enjoyed the music of Alicia Keys, and I've always enjoyed the antics of the 1980's TV series the Gummy Bears (for obvious reasons).  Is there any way I could enjoy both of these together?

Candy and Snack Related Super Bowl Commercials

Once again M&M's are going for the slightly disturbing angle in their commercial of what happens when a character is in fact the food you're going to eat.  This one has a slight sexual twist at the end, only because the red M&M seems to be a little into the idea of being devoured by a group of women.  This commercial isn't bad, but it's not the most clever use of the disturbing fact that the M&M's characters are in fact edible. My favorite use of this method is this commercial, it's much more clever, a lot darker, and a little funnier.  I will say that this latest commercial does entertain me, and it sure makes me want to bite into an M&M, particularly a giant one with arms and legs.

I Don't Understand The Song "Animal Crackers In My Soup".

 When I was a kid I used to have an Anne Murray record for kids. One of my favorite tracks from this record was "Animal Crackers in my Soup".  I never got the words right when I tried to sing it, generally mixing up the animals, but I loved this song.  I think the main reason I love this song is because I really love animal crackers.

 The problem is, now that I've grown up a little I've realized how much I really don't want these cookies in my soup.  The song is fun, but I don't really understand who would want to put cookies in their soup, it sounds kind of gross.  It got me thinking, was there a time when "Animal Crackers" were actually savory like crackers, and not sweet like cookies?

I did a little research and it appears that there have been many different  recipes for these cookies/crackers since they first started to appear in the late 19th century.  Almost every piece I've read on the subject used the words cookies, crackers, and biscuits interchangeably though.  All of them would also describe the cookies as "sweetened".  So I'm not sure what has changed, did these crackers used to be less sweet, or did people once have a taste for sweet crackers in savory soups?
