I generally don't like watermelon flavoured anything. I find that not one candy company has every managed to duplicate the texture and flavour that you get when you bite into a slice of watermelon. I'm sure that this has mainly to do with the texture over the flavour, as many companies that have attempted to make a tasty watermelon and failed, have created some of the best flavours with other products. Jelly Belly is a great example of this. Their buttered popcorn Jelly Belly is fantastic, as are a few of their strange flavours like baby powder and grass. Yet I can't stand watermelon Jelly Bellies.

Retro Mike and Ikes
at
3:00 PM
I just got 4 boxes of Retro Mike and Ikes in the mail today. Two of the packages have watermelon and lemon, and the other two have cherry and bubble gum. My favorite thing about these packages has to be the characters. In particularly I love the fact that the artwork isn't 3D or overly rendered. To me, a simple cheesy drawing is the perfect thing to adorn your candy package. My favorite character has to be the drunk looking bubble gum guy.
Now before I taste test these, I want to pick which flavour I'm going to review this weekend. Should I make my choice based on the coolest characters, the flavour I think I'll most like, or should I just let the first person who sends me a message on Twitter or Facebook decide.

Happy New Years!!!
at
12:01 AM
This year I've decided to make a New Year's resolution. I'm going to try to eat more candy. That may seem like an empty promise from a guy that runs a site called Candy Critic, but it's not. I'm going to go out of my way to try and sample a wider range of treats this year. I'm also going to attempt to eat more treats that I might have been unwilling to eat in the past. More coconut, licorice and fake watermelon flavoured treats are on the agenda. I'm also going to eat more hand made sweets, and try to experience even more variety from around the world.

Friday Video - Take That Watermelon
at
12:00 PM
Just in case you don't speak Japanese, what you are watching here is 500 rubber bands being placed around a watermelon until it explodes. Why you're watching this, I'm not really sure.

People Ask Me Why I Don't Like Most Watermelon Candies
at
9:57 AM
I'd be a liar if I told you that I like every single flavour of candy in the world. Truth is I'm not a big fan of licorice, fake apple, and fake watermelon. I try and describe to people why I don't like fake Watermelon but it's kind of hard. I say that fake watermelon flavours don't have that refreshing splash that you can only get from real watermelon, and frankly that splash is the best part.

The Science Of Flavours
at
4:41 PM
Creating artificial flavours is a science that is constantly changing and evolving. Every day science comes out with a new flavour or improvements on an already existing ones. My only problem with this industry is the complete lack of decent synthetic apple or watermelon flavours. You'd think by now someone would get it right.
