Easter In Covid Times

I feel like Easter is the one holiday that can work during Covid. While we all want to be outside or with extended family right now, Easter is the holiday where those in your house can celebrate together. More to the point, even if Covid was not a thing, it's very likely that you would not be going out during Easter (except those who celebrate at church). So start thinking about how you can celebrate this year and make sure to make it a great Easter. Hide treats no matter how old you are, paint Easter eggs now matter what lever artist you are, make this the best Easter ever and build new traditions that will last forever. If you do know someone who is absolutely alone, dawn your bunny ears and drop off a basket at their front door.

Be safe, but make Easter awesome.

The Top 6 Easter Candies I've Reviewed On Candy Critic, and My Least Favourite

Here's the strange thing about this list, every single entry is chocolate based. Even stranger, is that all but one is egg themed. I think it's safe to say that Easter is really a chocolate heavy holiday and the best way to eat this chocolate is in egg form. After doing a little checking (you can check out entire selection of Easter treat review here), it appears that only 4 of the 33 Easter reviews I've written are not chocolate based. While there is no denying that Easter is chocolate heavy, it could also be that I tend to lean towards chocolate Easter treats as well.

So here's the list of our top six Easter treats that I've reviewed on Candy Critic:

6 (tied with 5) with a total score of 12 - Milk Chocolate Eggs "with a Hazelnut Praline Filling"

I remember picking these up and not thinking much of them, after all they're just boring eggs covered in foil. Turns out I was wrong, for all the right reasons.

5 (tied with 6) with a total score of 12 - Green and Black's "Organic Milk Chocolate Egg"

This is one of the treats that changed the way I thought about organic chocolate. I used to think it was a gimmick, but after eating this egg I realized that there might be something to this organic chocolate.

4 (tied with 3) with a total score of 12.5 - L'il Scoops

Not only was this a fine quality chocolate treat, but it was super creative as well. Getting a chocolate egg is always fun, but packaging them up like real eggs is really cool.

This is proof that shopping outside of the main big box stores is a great idea for Easter. There are many small candy makers that are creating some amazing treats for Easter, and this is a great example of that.

This is a great example of an Easter gimmick that works well. It works well because they're is just something so satisfying about putting a whole bunch of tiny chocolate bunnies in your mouth at once. It also doesn't hurt that the chocolate is really good too.

1 with a score of 14 - Crème Egg

I've recently learned that there are people that actually hate the Cadbury Crème Egg. They say that it's too sweet. I do agree that it's really sweet, but I don't mind, it just tastes so great and it's a fun gimmick too.

This Week In Candy (A Little Late Because Of Easter)

The days after Easter are always the same, it starts with a little regret after you realize you've eaten a huge chocolate Easter bunny in one day.  Then you're filled with hope, that starts when you go shopping for something to help your stomach ache and you see discounted Easter candy.  The next move is to buy that same chocolate Easter bunny on sale, and this time take it slow.  That works for a few days, until you binge on the chocolate Easter bunny while watching Walking Dead in one night.  Fortunately, by then all of the good discounted Easter treats are gone, and you're left two weeks after Easter debating if it's worth buying that case of Peeps.

This week at Candy Critic, it's a bit of a work week.  We'll be recording the latest episode of the Junk Fud podcast featuring all of the junk food news that we came across in the month of March (it should go online later this week).  We're also working on some of our new Youtube content, including a new intro for our soon to be regular segment known as "Chris, Why Would You Eat That!??". We're also going to be working on a new segment that we hope to have going soon where we'll look back at some of the candy we've reviewed in the past, and see if it's still the same.  Finally we're writing a few articles that will be coming online in the future, and possibly starting an art project related to the candy we've reviewed.

This week on Snack Facts, our Instagram feed, we're looking at when certain chocolate bars came out. It's amazing how long some of the classic bars have been around.  Most would say that they don't remember these bars not existing, but chances are your grandparents may not have known a world without a Hershey Bar either.
