A Lot Of Kit Kat Bars

One of the things I've started to do on candycritic.org is collect Kit Kat bars. In particular I've started to collect reviews of milk chocolate Kit Kat bars from different parts of the world. It's been long thought that the British, Canadian and American Kit Kat bars while being similar, have some slight differences. I've also noticed that a few other countries around the world make their own version, and in some cases they to are different. Sometimes it's really hard to pinpoint the exact differences, but sometimes (like with this new review) it's really easy.

 It should be noted that while I've reviewed these brands the most, that doesn't mean that they're the best. Although each of these brands make some pretty good treats.

 I love a good pun, I particularly love a good Halloween candy pun. These Nestle treats have all my bases covered and make me totally happy.

It's Time To Roll Into A New Review - Rolo

 

This certainly falls into the category of candy reviews that I should have written years ago. I can't tell you why I've never written this review until now. I can tell you however that I've eaten plenty of these since this blog/site was created. The inspiration to write this review actually came from the fact that I recently reviewed the Rolo Minis. It just seemed wrong to not follow it up with the classic size. At the very least it'll give the Rolo Minis review a little better context.

It's Another Kit Kat Bar - Kit Kat "Matcha Green Tea"

I'm going to be completely honest with you guys, I'm getting a little tired of Kit Kat bars. I'm not going to put the blame on the creative people at Nestle, because those people have created some amazing flavour combination that work really well with the Kit Kat format. I think I might have just eaten too many varieties of Kit Kat bar in the last 2 or 3 years. I have, in the last few months, seen at least 4 different varieties of Kit Kat bars and not bought them. I just don't get excited about them. I don't blame anybody really, no one forced me to sample so many varieties of Kit Kat bars, but I did. I'm sure I'll get over this, and I'll see a Kit Kat bar that really excites me, but for now I think I might take a break from these bars... except I might be eating a classic Kit Kat for a video idea I have in the works, just maybe no reviews for a little while.

It's Time For Another Kit Kat Review-A-Thon, We'll Start With - Kit Kat "Popcorn Flavour"

This week's Kit Kat review-a-thon is an impromptu idea. I was wondering what to review today, and I noticed a backlog of Kit Kat bars in the wings. I think I was waiting for a rainy day to post yet another Kit Kat review-a-thon, and while the sky is clear right now, who knows how it'll be the rest of the week. So why not eat a bunch of Kit Kat bars this week.

I decided to start with a Kit Kat bar that I thought was both really weird,  and pretty tasty too. The concept was simple enough, but how they managed to pull it off is a little bit strange. Hopefully the rest of the reviews this week will come even a little bit close to the weirdness of this particular bar.

It's Monday so that means we have a new episode of Monday Morning Breakfast Thoughts and a new review - Butun Antep Fistikli

I love pistachios, I have great memories of eating them as a kid. For some reason I preferred the red pistachios as a kid, although today I'm not sure why. In fact I'm not really sure why they make red pistachios at all. This new review is full of pistachios, but for certain reasons it just doesn't work. That makes me sad because I really wanted to love this bar.

This Might Be The Most Disturbing Ice Cream Treat Review We've Ever Posted - Lgantu

When I first bought this ice cream treat I didn't think much of it.  I thought it was a simple little butterfly shaped ice cream treat, and nothing more.  After inspecting the package a little  closer I found some pretty strange and dark details. It went from being a fairly harmless ice cream treat to being something so strange and weird that it kind of creeped me out.

The Nesquik Bunny Would Like This Review

It's pretty amazing how the beverage industry and the candy industry get along.  There are hundreds of sweet treats based on drinks, and hundreds of drinks based on sweet treats.  The only other industry that I think gets along as well with the candy world is cereal companies.  There are a lot of cross over treats and cereals as well. While this Nesquik bar is a pretty obvious cross over, there are a few that are a little stranger, the old Gator Gum comes to mind.  I hope that these ties stay close, and it might be nice to see even more food industries getting into the candy act.

8 Days Of UK Treats - Day 4

Some people may argue that all of the treats I'm reviewing aren't technically from the UK.  I'll be honest, without a great deal of research it's hard to find out exactly where many treats are from.  Did you know that the Kit Kat is a British creation?  Tell that to an American, or someone from Japan.  All I can tell you about this weeks lineup of UK treats is that I bought each and every one of them in the UK.  Some are popular treats found all over both England and Scotland (like today's review), and some I've only found in one particular place.  The idea this week is to look at some of the great finds I've discovered on my travels, their origins are another blog post all together.

Classic/Creative Candy Advertising - What To Eat In War Times

To continue with my "American" themed blogs this week, I found this advertisement promoting candy to American soldiers.  While we can joke about this, I've heard stories from many soldiers about how candy helped them while fighting a war.

Nestle Quick Supports Bunnies

Here at the Athens zoo, Nestle Quick has decided to sponsor the bunny exhibit.  They call it bunnyland, and they completely cover the place with images of the Nestle Quick Bunny.

They also cover all of the signs up with the latest in Nestle cereals.  Although they encourage you not to feed the bunnies, only yourself I guess.

The back wall of the exhibit is not only covered with the Nestle Quick Bunny, but other Nestle characters.

I wonder if the bunnies in the exhibit know about the Quick Bunny?  I wonder if the real Nestle Quick Bunny visits?  I wonder why the Nestle Quick Bunny can enjoy sweet treats, but these bunnies can't?

Friday's Candy Links

I just heard that the television show Recipes to Riches is going to have a "Candies and Chocolate" category this year, listen up candy companies you might learn something new.

Check out Nestle's entrance into the fine chocolate world, it looks pretty good, but I think I have to taste it to be sure.

Sure you're happy about the mild winter this year, but that means less maple syrup, now are you happy?

No More Nutchos... Kinda.

My friend Raph asked "Oh sweet wizard of all things candy, please tell me WHERE I CAN FIND NUTCHOS. Or maybe you have some inside scoop as to why they don't make em anymore?"  I had completely forgotten about Nutchos, but the minute he suggested them my mouth started watering and I craved them like crazy.  I did a little investigating and I discovered that they were only recently discontinued by Nestle. I asked the folks at Nestle and they said "Nutchos were launched November 1, 2007 and discontinued in 2010 as a marketing decision"

Sorry Raph, it appears buying a box of Nutchos is not in the cards.  Unless you want to start a campaign to bring them back. I did however find a few recipes for them online from other people that felt the same way you did.
