Okay, So I Might Have a Problem

Today's review has two problems. The first is that it's a classic bar from a huge company (Cadbury), that I for some reason haven't reviewed till this point. I'm not sure why I've never reviewed it, but it's taken way too long. The second problem is it seems like as of late I've been reviewing way too many fruit and nut bars. I'll admit that even the reviews themselves are getting repetitive, but that's only because every single fruit and nut bar has one fatal flaw.

Which is the Copy

The one thing you learn when you taste candy from other parts of the world is that there are a lot of similar treats with different names. The challenge for me is to try and figure out which came first. It's funny because I really dislike copycat candies, but don't always know who's copying who. This new review is a perfect example. It tastes exactly like one of my childhood favourite candy bars, it's even made by the same company. The problem is that I don't know who made it first.

Dairy Milk Is Just Good Chocolate

I've reviewed a lot of Dairy Milk bars on candycritic.org, almost 30 of them, but I'm probably going to continue to review more. The main reason I keep reviewing them is that there's one very important consistent, quality of chocolate. I know that if I eat a Dairy Milk bar, not matter what the extra ingredients might be, I know that the chocolate is likely not going to ruin it. It makes tasting these bars a little more fun, because I know that whatever they put into the bar, the chocolate is only going to make it better.

When In England, Buy Milk Chocolate

I feel a little sorry for candy makers in the UK, unless you make a milk chocolate treat. My problem is that every time I visit the UK, I tend to gravitate towards any of their treats that contain milk chocolate. The reason is simple, some of (if not the) best mass produced milk chocolate comes from the UK. On just about every visit to the UK I tend to load up on milk chocolate treats, and that means that I might miss or pass up something that doesn't have any milk chocolate in it. If you know a great non-milk chocolate treat that I should try, let me know, I'll add it to my list and really try hard to get it.

S'Mores In Candy

I feel like s'mores should be the easiest treat to reproduce in candy form, but frankly I don't know if I've ever found a treat that pulled off the perfect match. I've tried s'mores ice cream, candy bar, and even cookies, but nothing has been able to match the pure bliss that is biting into a warm s'mores fresh off the fire. I feel like it's a fools errand to try and recreate this treat, but I'm always happy to try out any candy companies attempt.

Good Chocolate, Fun Ingredients

Most people seem to assume that good chocolate is something that should be reserved for serious fillings and flavour combinations. I argue that more candy companies that use high quality chocolate should consider using more fun ingredients. I feel like there's a divide, and that I'll never see a Cote D'Or chocolate bar with gummy bears in it. I feel like there's some kind of mental barrier that stops fine chocolate shops from adding fun ingredients, like grown ups are the only ones to eat fine chocolate, and they don't like anything fun in their chocolates. I feel like Cadbury is doing it right, good quality chocolate with fun things inside it. I just wish more candy makers would do the same.

You Can't Rely On Anybody - Zip "Double"

If you've read this blog, or if you search through candycritic.org, you'll find that I have a love affair with certain candy brands. This love affair doesn't come from them sending me free candy, or even out of nostalgia. The thing that makes me love a candy company is when they produce good candy. It's even more astounding if I fall in love with a candy company that's fairly big, or even more rare, gigantic. Cadbury is one of those few brands, they're a huge company that sells chocolate all over the world. They also produce some of the best mass produced chocolate bars that I know of.

The thing is, sometimes the ones you love, disappoint you. You still love them, and you hold out hope that it's not a decline, but just a misstep. This Zip "Double" bar is what I hope to be a small misstep from the  people at Cadbury. It's not a horrible bar, but it's way too average for a brand that's made me happy so often.

Lots Of Australian Candy This Week - Freddo

When we left for Australia, I didn't think that I would be picking up too many treats. My plan was to pick up maybe 4 or 5 treats and review them on the go. It started out pretty well, but at about the halfway point of the trip, I realized that I was going to be getting a lot more Australian treats than I expected. I was hoping to be able to write all of my reviews while I was in Australia, but that didn't happen, I ended up coming home with a pretty good collection of treats to review.

This week we'll post a bunch of the treats, but I get the feeling that a few are going to be sitting in our reserve to post on a rainy day.

We're Starting Another Review-a-Thon All About Dairy Milk - Dairy Milk "Caramello"

I've gone on record on candycritic.org countless times saying that I believe that Cadbury is one of (if not the) best mass produced chocolate bar manufacturer in the world. The star chocolate bar in their selection is their Dairy Milk chocolate bars. This bar started as just a simple milk chocolate bar, but has now changed into something much bigger. Even when I was a kid there weren't too many versions of this bar, however today you'll find Dairy Milk chocolate with so many flavours and fillings, all over the world. In some ways this has improved this chocolate bar line, but sometimes they don't really get everything right.

All this week we're going to look at some of the variations we've discovered lately. We've already reviews so many versions  of this bar (check out our full list here), but there seems to be many more to try. We're also going to do something a little different this week, and we're going to include a bar that isn't made by Cadbury, but still claims to be a Dairy Milk.

I Discovered A New Kind Of Dessert - Dairy Milk "Tiffin"

I consider myself a pretty authoritative figure when it comes to sweets. It could be candy, snacks or desserts, but I think that I know a lot about anything with sugar. However, I still have lots to learn, and whenever I learn something new about sweet treats I'm super happy. While reviewing this chocolate bar, I learned that there's a dessert called  "Tiffin", and now I want to try it.

We Got Some New Treats On Our Trip to Bali/Singapore - Dairy Milk In Lickables

This latest trip to Bali and Singapore was not supposed to be about snacking, it was one of the rare occasions where we went somewhere that I thought I wouldn't find too much to review. I was very wrong. Today's new review is just the tip of the iceberg, and we'll have more treat reviews from this trip going up over the next month, or even two. These Lickables were probably the most mysterious of the treats we found, and I couldn't wait to crack open the package and figure them out. As it turns out, everything inside this strange package was pretty disappointing.
