This Week In Candy

Spring is here, and that means so is Easter.  With spring in the air, and chocolate bunnies on our mind, we're going to celebrate the chocolatiest holiday of the year.  We've got a few plans for this holiday, some which will be revealed later this week, other's we'll talk about right now.

You may have noticed that we've been posting a lot of Easter themed greeting cards lately.  It's not too late to pick up a special Easter themed card for that special someone.  I'm sure it would decorate that Easter basket perfectly.  You can check out all of our cards right here.

This week we're also going to keep you very informed about this candy fun holiday on Snack Facts, our Instagram feed.  Every day this week we'll post a new fun fact about Easter, and the treats we're all hopping to get in our basket (pun intended).  You can check out our daily Snack Facts on our Instagram feed, Facebook page, and Twitter feed as well.

What would be an Easter week without a special Easter review.  This week's review takes one of the modern classic Easter candies, and gives it a little twist.  Click here to find out if Cadbury Creme Eggs translated well into cookie form.

Candy In The Media

Of all the commercials ever produced, I think this Cadbury Easter Creme Egg commercial symbolizes Easter to me the best.  The idea of a clucking bunny gives me fond memories of searching out candy baskets early on Easter morning.  To this day, in our house Easter Creme Eggs are an Easter tradition, and every year we await the clucking bunny to deliver them.

This Week In Candy

This last week the big news was the change of recipe for the Cadbury Creme Egg.  It appears that Cadbury, now owned by Kraft, has decided to change the chocolate used for the outside shell of the egg, as well as change the number of eggs sold in bulk packages (this can only be confirmed in some countries). The one place that is apparently not being affected by the changes is the USA, but everywhere else they're now no longer using Dairy Milk chocolate for their eggs.  This has rocked the candy world, and many have taken to social media to complain about this.  We here at Candy Critic are at the very least skeptical about the new shell, but we plan on getting our hands on one of these new eggs and giving them a try.

Stay tuned this week as we'll be starting a contest that could get you some free Mike & Ike's candies.  They're introducing a couple of new flavours and they've graciously offered to send some to me and to some of my followers.  I'm still working out the details of the contest, but I'll be sure to announce it on Facebook and Twitter the minute I have everything worked out.

This week on Snack Facts, our very fun and informative Instagram feed, we're looking at the French Fry.  It's going to be a week filled with greasy, starchy and salty information about one of the most popular fast foods in the world.  You can follow Snack Facts on Instagram, or you don't use Instagram, you can also follow it on our Twitter feed and our Facebook page.

This week's review is a fun little treat that I picked up in Turkey.  I wasn't sure if I should put this under European candy or Asian, since I bought it in Istanbul (it's the city that stretches over two continents).  I finally decided on Europe only because I actually bought it on the European side of the Bosphorus. Click here to read about this bar I bought in Turkey.

It's My Easter Review

It's strange that I've never reviewed a Cadbury Creme Egg before today.  I've written about them many times, but I've never posted and official review.  Today I'm really happy that I waited so long to do this because I get to eat a Creme Egg for the site.  If I didn't wait so long than I would have had to go out hunting for another Easter treat, and who knows what I may have found.

Click here to read my Cadbury Creme Egg review (hint, it probably went really well).

Happy Easter!!!

I hope the bunny brought you lots and lots of sweet treats.  Sit back, eat an egg or two, and enjoy this video of scientists destroying Cadbury Cream eggs in many different ways.

Thursday's Candy Links

Over at Mental Floss, there is a great Cadbury Creme Egg discussion going on, well worth joining in.

How would you like a free chocolate bar, how about a whole case of them?

Do you think there are too many commercials aimed at kids, do you think commercials for candy and fast food directed at kids should be banned?

Egg on Your Face

Cadbury UK seems to have created a rather strange campaign that has something to do with the upcoming Olympics in London and the Cadbury creme egg.  Or at least that what I think it's related to.

I'm not sure how I feel about these pictures.  They're strangely erotic, gross, and appetizing, all at the same time. Having said that Cadbury is fairly well known for some strange advertising campaigns that eventually turn into standards.  Take the Cadbury bunny for instance,  a clucking bunny is really strange, but now it's just the Cadbury bunny and not strange at all.

You can learn more about these photos at Cadbury UK's Facebook page.

Over the last few weeks I've come across many articles dealing with how healthy Easter treats really are.  Well I came across this one and I think it's really interesting.  Instead of simply listing the calories, and fat content of the treats, here we have a list of some of the ingredients.  Best of all theres a short description of each ingredient to let you know what it does.

Click here to read the list.
