A Halloween Candy Costume Thing - Part 4

Every year I like to feature a candy themed costume that has a little sex appeal.  I'm not sure if this is really "sexy" as much as it is creepy, but it seems to be going for the sexy look.  The one thing this Umpa Lumpa costume has done, is made me think.  Why weren't there any lady Umpa Lumpas in either of the movies (or the book I assume)?  They wouldn't have to sell sex like this costume does, but I'm sure all those Umpa Lumpas would have enjoyed a little female companionship after working the line at the Wonka factory.

A Halloween Candy Costume Thing - Part 3

A few weeks ago I posted what I thought was the worst candy themed Halloween costume ever.  I gave that one credit though, because it was instantly recognizable as a candy.  This costume on the other hand is also fairly cheap looking, and even with the description "Adult Cookie Costume", I'm still not convinced.  It look more like a pizza from a 1940s black and white cartoon than a cookie.  I have to give this guy credit though, he's selling the costume to the best of his ability.

This Week In Candy

Halloween is coming, and we're super excited about it!

This week we're continuing with our blog posts all about this most awesome of holidays, at least when it comes to candy.  This Friday we'll be posting another video all about how they make one of your favorite Halloween treats.. well sort of.  This Wednesday we'll also be posting another in our list of candy themed Halloween costumes.  Speaking of which, we still don't know what we should dress up as this year.  We have a party to attend, but nothing to wear.  Any suggestions?

The biggest problem we have with getting a costume is the fact that we're not home right now.  We're still in Africa trying to see cool animals, explore fun places, and track down African candy.  We'll be back soon, before Halloween for sure.  It just makes it hard to find a costume while you're traveling.

A Halloween Candy Costume Thing - Part 2

As we continue our look at candy themed Halloween costumes, this week we've got something a little obscure, yet totally recognizable.  While this isn't a "candy costume" per-se, it is candy related.  Taken from one of the most famous candy scenes in television history, this I Love Lucy candy maker outfit is pretty cool  Sure some of the "kids" today might not get it, but all us old time candy fans will understand you.

A Halloween Candy Costume Thing - Part 1

With Halloween approaching, it's time here at Candy Critic to look at candy themed Halloween costumes.  today we're looking at probably one of the best and worst costumes all in one.  It's a pretty cheesy looking costume, and it kind of looks like it was made hours before this kid showed up at a Halloween party.  The redeeming thing about this costume however is the fact that you know exactly what he's supposed to be dressed as. Personally I'd rather have people talking behind my back about what a crappy costume I'm wearing, over people asking me what I'm supposed to be dressed as.

A Pink Bunny Candy Thing

While looking at things to feature for Easter on the weekly Candy Thing post, I realized that the Easter Bunny may be the only holiday character that really doesn't have a gender.  That means that this slightly sexy Easter Bunny costume might actually be appropriate.  Personally I think it would be great if the Easter Bunny was a girl, after all there aren't that many holiday themed characters that are women.  However this costume doesn't really demonstrate how much this idea is a great step in the direction toward equality for women in the field of holiday characters.

A Cool Candy Thing - Halloween Costume Eddition

When you type the words "Halloween costume" into Google, most of the entries that you'll find will consist of "sexy" versions of various costumes.  There's no difference when you're trying to search out candy themed Halloween costumes either.  The most popular sexy "costume" one finds when doing a search for candy costumes tends to be a small tight dress that vaguely looks like a famous candy wrapper.  I decided that I would search through all of the "sexy" costumes and find one that was still sexy, but kind of classy as well.  This is the best I could find.  While still being sexy, it's not over the top, it also has a simplicity to it.  Cupcakes are a fairly attractive type of sweet treat, and they lend themselves well to Halloween costumes.  There's just something very 1950s about this costume, and it seems a little bit innocent with a hint of sass.

A Cool Candy Thing - Halloween Costume Eddition

There's something rather evil looking about this costume.  If I remember correctly, Willy Wonka wasn't really very nice to children, at the end of the story he even yelled at Charlie, who was nothing but the nicest boy in the world.  So the idea of a child wanting to emulate a character that's mean to children seems a little strange.  Maybe this could inspire a new book, maybe we could learn about Willy Wonka as a child, and find out why a man who really doesn't like children would get into the candy industry.  If you made a movie about it you wouldn't have to worry about hiring a designer to design his wardrobe, it's right here.

A Cool Candy Thing - Halloween Costume Eddition

I generally dislike the idea of dressing a baby up for Halloween.  It probably stems from the fact that I don't really like dressing up for Halloween, and I believe that stems from bad childhood memories.  I'm not really sure the specifics for my dislike of dressing up for Halloween, but it leads me to find most babies costumes to be kind of creepy.  The saving grace of this costume is the double meaning, Sugar Babies being a real candy (for those outside of the US).  While I don't have any children, and if I did I wouldn't dress them up for Halloween until they were old enough to eat the candy themselves, I do appreciate the humor in this costume. So if you really feel the need to dress up your baby this Halloween, I think ironic candy costumes are the new thing, or at least they should be.

All this month we're going to look at a different candy related Halloween costume every week on our "A Cool Candy Thing" post.  This week I thought I would start with a costume that I might consider wearing, not because it looks particularly cool, but because it's kind of ironic.  To me there's something really interesting about wearing a costume that celebrates another holiday for Halloween. As a kid I'd always thought about dressing up as Santa Clause for Halloween, but if I was to go with a candy theme, this would work just as well.  I  have to admit that the costume itself is fairly uninspired artistically, but I'm sure you'd attract some attention, and a few questions.

The 70s were a strange time in candy advertising.  While I commend them for taking a classic song about candy and re-writing the lyrics to suit their candy, I'm thinking that the folks at M&M's should have considered a different costume for their "Candy Man".

A Cool Candy Thing

Is this a costume, or a dress?  I would say that it's a dress because really you're not disguising yourself as anything, and the dress itself doesn't look like a Twix bar other than having the same colour as a Twix wrapper and the Twix logo printed on it.  Having said all that, I'm not sure if I know any woman (or man) that would wear this to a night out on the town.  It's not really fashionable, and the message it creates "I like chocolate bars a lot", isn't really one most women want to portray in their fashion.

Classic/Creative Candy Advertising

When did it become un-cool to dress up as a bunny?  It seems like the perfect costume.  I'm sure it keeps you warm, it's got a great deal mobility, and girls would be more than happy to give you a scratch now and then.  Sure it's not as cool as the current trendy costume, Miley Cyrus and Robin Thick twerking (oh man), but it's timeless and you could use it as pajamas afterwards.
