Strange Easter Ad

I saw this ad in Toronto and I'm not really sure what it's supposed to do.

Update week, this is day 3 I think, no wait it’s day 4.

So basically I’ve been eating a whole lot of junk food over the last couple of days. My teeth hurt a little and I’m super full of energy and then it goes down again. I think for dinner tonight a salad is in order. Today’s treat was another strange one, yet another Easter treat that I wasn’t 100% sure was supposed to be eaten.

Update day countdown to Easter.

I was really worried that I wouldn’t find anything to review this Easter and then all of a sudden I got so much delivered to my front door that I had to do an impromptu review-a-thon. I guess things could be worse, getting and having to eat a whole bunch of candy is most people’s heaven, and I really don’t mind it myself.

Today is Caramel Popcorn Day!

So if you had planned to have some popcorn...

Why not make it a little stickier.

Update week, monday.

For those that haven’t read the review post from yesterday, this week, all the way till Easter, we’ll be adding a new review every day. Today’s review I’m not sure if you can even call it candy. The people at the NCA (National Candy Association) sent it to me so they must know what is in fact candy. It wasn’t spectacular but it was different.

Twinkies for Sale

Apparently today is the anniversary for when Twinkies hit the market. It’s a time of celebration, a time to bite into a cake filled with cream. One of my dreams is to visit the factory where they make Twinkies. Maybe some day that dream will come true. Till then, happy birthday Twinkies!

It’s update day… All week for Easter!

This weeks update will be changing all week, so I’ll have to start to refer to it as today’s review for the next little while. It seems like the perfect week to do it because Easter is on the way and what better way to check out what you might be getting in your Easter basket (or hidden around the house).

I decided to do the review every day because of the kind generosity of the folks at the NCA (National Confectioners Association) and their awesome Easter bag they sent me. It was a true inspiration.

This week’s photo is filled with Easter fun and it’s sweet too. There’s something about the way a bunny looks at me when I’m munching on his ears that either looks sad or totally terrified.

I go now

So I was in a bathroom and I came across this advertisement from the Heart and Stroke Foundation about fatty foods that made me think. The thing is it didn’t make me think about fatty foods and junk food at all.
Actually it did because I looked closely at the vending machine and wished a few of these fake treats where real. What I really wonder is if maybe this ad is out of place. Isn’t it advertising at the wrong end of the digestive cycle?

Expensive water.

Hey this water is pricey, $8.50 a bottle, I'll be sure not drink any while I stay at this hotel.
Hey are those cashews? Yum... Crunch, crunch, crunch.

I need a break from spring stuff.

I figure this week’s video could just be something cool, something that made me smile when I saw it. Hope you like it too.

A huge bag

That is what I just got in the mail from the wonderful people at the NCA (National Confectioners Association). These fine folks have decided to send me some awesome holiday greeting for Easter and a bag full of cool treats to boot.
To celebrate this awesome package of goodies I'm going to do a review everyday starting on April 5th until Easter. I'll review one of the treats that they've provided each day, and best of all they'll all be Easter related. I can’t say enough about the good people at the NCA, they probably love candy almost as much as me.

Chocolate Shop in Watertown

I always love hitting the stores when I travel and trying to find unique treats only available in that area.

While in Watertown NY I stopped in Gurtrude Hawk and picked up a few chocolates, one of which is well worth reviewing.

Favourite Cookie

I've blogged before about what I consider to be the best cookie ever. In the past I've mentioned this little coffee shop on the Atrium on bay in Toronto having this Oatmeal cookie that blew my mind.

Well for a while I avoided it because I thought it would ruin the memories. I avoid no more, I picked one up while I stopped in Toronto and was overjoyed to know that the cookie still stands up as one of the best I've ever eaten.

Update Da… Wait a minute.

Ok so it’s not really update day, it’s a couple of days after update day, but I was out of town. I was out of town searching for cool candy, and trust me I found a bunch. So much so in fact that my teeth are already starting to hurt. This weeks review actually came from a trip too; unfortunately it wasn’t me on it. However any time I get a treat out of someone’s fun trip out of town I’m at least a little less jealous.

Are you for real?

As you may or may not know I’m taking a class right now all about food science. It’s fascinating and strangely doesn’t scare me away from many foods; it actually makes me feel better about them. Last week we had a class on packaging, or what the rule are about labels and such.
While enjoying a bag of “cheddar snacks” I read this on the back of the bag. I’m not sure what it means, but I’m pretty sure that I won’t find any real cheese in the ingredient list.Wait a minute it’s there, so why use the words “real cheddar cheese taste”, it makes it sound like there’s no cheddar at all. Language is so confusing.

Sprinkled with Pride

On my stop over in Toronto I decided to hit Tim Horton's and I noticed that in Toronto they use just blue and white sprinkles on their vanilla dip donuts. I'm thinking it has something to do with Maple Leafs.

Best Worst Meal Ever

Just got back from a road trip through Toronto down to the US, where I ate like any good American should. I should mention that I'm Canadian so really I over did it a lot.The winner of the worst meal that I consumed on the whole trip had to be Cracker Barrel. I enjoyed their chicken and cheddar skillet. It's a layer of hash browns covered with chicken and broccoli, covered with that cheap cheese sauce they use in theatre nachos, covers with broken Ritz crackers, covered with more crapy cheese. It was wonderful and the only way that you can guarantee to break any diet that you might be on.

Wow this is cool

The folks at Tootsie are great people, and you may agree with me. Why do you ask? Well they just sent me a whole bunch of candy to take a look at, review, and maybe bathe in, but really that's personal. Best of all they've sent word that they will also send one of my lucky readers a bunch of treats too. All I have to do is pick one winner and a pack will be yours. Now I have to figure out how to give it away.

I've got it! Send me an idea for how I should give these away. Be it a contest idea, a silly stunt, I don't know. The best idea will get their address forwarded to the folks at Tootsie Roll and will get some really cool mail.

Just to let you know that the free candy from Tootsie contest is over. I'll announce the winner as soon as they fess up.

Pictures of your truly.

For those that missed the article about Candy Critic in the Charlatan a few weeks ago, you also missed some awesome pictures taken by Christopher King.
He managed to get some shots that really look great. It’s always strange to have someone shoot you for an article and I’m always paranoid that it’ll make me look silly. But Chris did a great job and made me look silly but in a good way.

Click here to check out some of Chris's other shots.
